New Rules Variant: Initiative

Greetings,
This week's Earthdawn post on my blog takes a look at an alternative Initiative system where it is only determined once per encounter. There's still the round structure, rather than the rolling single round seen in D&D. Moving to the latter requires considerably more changes under the hood and has significant changes to the tactical landscape.
This may not be a good idea and the execution probably needs improvement, but you never know until you try.
