Brief Backstory:
Mor’du had once been hired as a guide for explorers out of the Ogden Kaer. After his party was viciously attacked by a horror, and he was saved by a great bear he found himself wandering the wilds – climbing the food chain. He remembered rumors of great adventure from a place called Throal and decided he needed a place to find larger prey.
Spoiler:
Full Backstory:
Mor’du came from the Kaer of Ogden. Explorers hoping to make map the lands outside Ogden hired him due to his expertise in the wilderness. He took the opportunity to learn more about the wildlife and he found himself drawn to the larger predators in the wilds. The group of travelers would quake with fear when a howl or a growl was heard in the darkness; Mor’du instead found his heart racing with anticipation. One night when the camp was asleep, Mor’du was keeping watch and heard rustling and low growls in the brush. Before he could wake his comrades he saw the eyes of a great beast reflecting the light of his campfire. Mor’du was mesmerized. He made no move in either defense or offense towards the beast. After some time the beast backed away from the fire and into the wilderness.

Mor’du could not shake those eyes that were now burned into his mind. Every night he watched the darkness hoping they’d appear again. When he slept he found himself running through the wilds searching for the beast. He’d always wake up before reaching it, always in a cold sweat and breathing heavily.

One night while on watch he heard a deep growl and heard the breaking of branches and crunching of leaves. Excited he stood and peered into the darkness – hoping to find those eyes again. Instead there was a roar like nothing he’d heard before. Before he was able to defend himself a strange creature burst into the camp and tore into his sleeping party. He attempted to defend those he traveled with but was thrown aside with such force that he found himself bleeding and close to unconsciousness. As he faded in and out of darkness he saw them. Those eyes came storming out of the night and attacked the horror. Through fading vision, Mor’du saw them fight each mauling the other with grievous wounds. The horror must have fallen or fled because as he opened his eyes once more those strange eyes were limping towards him. A great black bear larger than any he had seen or heard about. Mod’du could hear the wheezing of the great beast as it struggled towards where he lay. It collapsed at his feet. Mor’du saw the light in its eyes expire right before his own eyes faded to black.

In the morning the two beasts that had fought the night before were nowhere to be found. *Had it been a dream?* As he stood he smelled blood, looking at his hands he saw his wounds he’d received the night before. He looked around and saw the gore of his comrades strewn about the camp. *Who would believe me back in Ogden?*

Mor’du had decided to search for the great bear but could find no discernable tracks. Instead he found himself simply wandering. Over time he seemed to forget the luxuries of the Kaer and in its place found his home in the wilds. In a place where only the strong survive he found himself climbing the food chain. He remembered hearing rumors of a place called Throal. He remembered promises of adventure. So that’s where he would go – in search of larger prey.
