Getting Started

Okay, my specialty is asking a bunch of dumb questions because it might benefit others, and this is another situation.

I want to get in on this Westmarches action. I think I'll be able to start a local Earthdawn group soon (finally!) but I want to play a little in the meantime and also figure out how to run online games using the current hotness so that I can do something with 1879 online (for which I have a couple players interested.)

I have the Discord app, and I've accidentally clicked onto an Earthdawn game by clicking a link in another forum, but otherwise I can't figure out what I'm supposed to do with it.

I've started tinkering with roll20, made a campaign, even.

Would anyone like to share some insultingly simple advice as to how to get started?

We're in a transitional period at the moment, so things may be a little less obvious than usual.

1. Go to the "Important Rules, formats and Links" post.
http://www.fasagames.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=433

2A. Get an account on Discord and join our game channel.
2B. Join the Roll20 Tabletop.
2C. Load the Google Calendar.
2D. Read the rules document.

3. Create a first circle character and post it following the Character Creation Template.
http://www.fasagames.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=432

Per the setting guidelines, all characters should be from Throal ATM.

4. All October+ sessions will be scheduled here, but we've still got a few LFG posts in Reddit for sessions later this month.

If you see a session you would like to play in, reply here and I'll try and make sure your character gets mentioned in the reddit LFG post.

5. If you are selected to join a session, show up on Discord and Roll20 about 15 minutes before and have fun.

6. If you would like to create a mission, make up a rumor you'd like to investigate and contact the GMs to try and schedule a session.

Updated:

1. Go to the "Important Rules, formats and Links" post.
http://www.fasagames.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=433

2A. Get an account on Discord and join our game channel.
2B. Join the Roll20 Tabletop.
2C. Load the Google Calendar.
2D. Read the rules document.
2E. Get an account on the FASA Games Forum if you don't already have one.

3. Create a first circle character and post it following the Character Creation Template.
http://www.fasagames.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=432

Information on where your character can be from can be located in the "Origin Stories" thread.
viewtopic.php?f=49&t=465

All character approvals go through me, so once I've reviewed your character, you may proceed to add your character's stats to your Roll20 character sheet.

4. If you see a session you would like to play in, reply in its LFG post.

5. If you are selected to join a session, show up on Discord and Roll20 about 15 minutes before and have fun.

6. If you would like to create a mission, make up a rumor you'd like to investigate and contact the GMs to try and schedule a session.
All GMs have posted their availability in the "Important Rules, formats and Links" thread.
viewtopic.php?f=49&t=433

All October+ sessions will be recorded here, but we've still got a few AARs stored in the subReddit we were originally operating under.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Earthdawn_Westmarches/new/ may contain interesting ideas you can use to create rumors for LFG posts.

The game is played using a combination of Discord for text and audio chat, Roll20 for virtual tabletop, and the FASA Games Forum for recordkeeping.
