Hi!

For Wyvern ist mentioned that they are defintely no Dragon but sensless animals.
So from Rules prospective are they non-magical animals or are they treated as "magical" Animals?

The Tjabjins script in Dragons may suggest that Wyvern is a dragon between a chick and adult life. They lose their magical abilities and become brainless, aggressive monsters that will hunt, kill themselves and survive, but only the strongest (as in a society of dragons).

Ok 4th GMG also says the animal part. So I would consider them as non-magical animals.
So from rules site they could be the source for C7 Shaman Spell "Beastform"

They are Dragons - True Dragons - every Great Dragon was a wyvern at some point in his life.

You can't dominate them with the "dominate beast" talent and you can't tie them with "animal bond" so you can't change into them with the "beastform" spell.

Here I disagree:

Quote from GM G:
Wyverns resemble small dragons, but as I have explained in the past, they are not
dragons. They are not even Namegivers. They are savage, mindless beasts driven by
instinct. That they resemble dragons is nothing more than the universe’s cruel joke
called coincidence.

you have to read between the lines of one of the older books (it's about dragons, it was free at one point i believe - not sure if it is now). it is heavily implied that a great dragon who is being interviewed is *saying* they aren't a stage of a dragon's life... but is totally lying. he describes a stage of draconic life that exactly matches wyverns, and reacts very defensively to the idea that wyverns could even possibly be dragons.

now, i don't know enough to tell you whether it has ever been confirmed that the great dragon was lying, but i'll put it this way: i don't think anyone has *ever* seen these juvenile dragons that are described as being a stage of a dragon's life. and their description matches wyverns exactly. and there are other clues strongly hinting that wyverns are young dragons.

so i think there is enough there that a GM *could* rule that wyverns are not dragons at all, but given the evidence we have *I* certainly wouldn't make that ruling.

Hello,

For what it's worth, the intent was that yes, wyverns are in fact adolescent dragons.

I would probably treat them as magical animals, but would leave it up to the GM to decide for their own game.

An interesting possibility is that for all intents and purposes during their wyvern phase, they actually *stop* being magical creatures.

Thanks!

Lou

I always got from the hints that they are a magical creature related to dragons (wyvern skins and stinger venom being magical ingredients for certain things), _and_ that <spoilers> adolescent dragons spend time looking like & flying around with wyvern flocks</spoilers>.

Another interesting possibility is that they are just unruly teenagers, too hepped up on adrenaline and hormones to bother with magic.
