Page 210: “Unless specifically indicated by the particular ability, astral sensing does not enable an adept to detect the imprints or patterns of subjects hidden behind or within other objects.”

Does “other objects” refer to a magic object (like a magic box), a mundane object (like a box of wood perhaps), or both?

It would be both. Solid objects block astral perception, whether magical or not.

I picture mundane objects as being opaque flat grey, with the faintest reflection of the glow of astral energies. It’s like the opposite of a hall of mirrors. Sometimes only the black wisps of corruption curling around objects delineates their edges. Extremely disorienting.

Indeed, the books states that matter keep its properties in Astral Space.

So the imprint of a non-magical wall, although looking colorless, bland and therefore 'empty', would still be opaque and will block the view from any other imprint standing behind it just as it would in the physical world.

Also, it is my understanding that the 'brightness' of a magical/alive thing does not 'bleed out' out of the imprint: i.e. you could not tell that someone is standing just on the corner of a wall as if he was holding a source of light.

Finally, the fact that matter keep its properties also mean that you WOULD see through matter that is transparent in the physical world; if your wall has a window, you'd see through it.

I don't know if it is what you need but, for my part reading pages 75 to 77 of "Magic:A manual of mystic secrets" (6201 1st Edition) help me understood everything I needed to know about astral sensing.

In those page you understand the difference between: Astral-sensitive(the windling ability), Astral sight(the Talent) and Astral Sense(the spell).

There is an example for all of them.

All about Astral sensing is written in those pages!

But in 4th edition it was change to no longer allow seeing through mundane objects (which was possible before).

As far as I know, it was never possible to see through the astral imprint of any objects (mundane or not) even in First Edition (unless the object in question itself was transparent, like a windows).

It was if you achieved higher result in your Astral Sight test. At least in 3rd edition. In 4th it was change and only Lifesight allows you to see through walls.
