You are reading the writings of Truck of the Deep Servos.

In response to a posting, I and several others were hired by the great library to escort Ardin Tero, a scholar who researches legends. He is currently trying to find out about an ancient hero named Naaman Y'ross who had been active just before the scourge. Naaman was based in Travar, and there is a monument to him in Travar dating back from his actions during the Water Rebellion. Word has recently come from a place called New Messic (on the Opthia river) that seems connected to the old hero. There is a story of a young boy named Naaman Yarrs who went missing for several weeks that many have linked to the old legends of Y'ross. We are to escort Ardin to New Messic and help him investigate.

As we passed through the outskirts of the Servos Jungle (home), we heard some rustling in the underbrush a few dozen yards off of the path, I investigated and saw to Molgrim, which I tried to scare off, but they attacked and we had to slay them. This was the only encounter of note before we arrived at New Messic (3407). The population is mostly human, with a few dwarves. They welcomed us warmly, and did not ask for a greeting ritual, in fact they seemed unfamiliar with the ritual. They said that their village has not had any visitors at all in the two years that they have been aboveground. The person who opened their kear,Rurik Rockfist did some sort of greeting ritual, but they did not attach any importance to it. The two leaders of the village, Akirro and Jana Skarn seem scatterbrained and can't remember things two years gone. The whole village are hard working people who do practical stuff (weaving, cooking, etc.) but no purely artistic activity such as singing or dancing.

We spoke to the young man "Naaman Yarrs" who had had the weird experience. He and two companions had put the livestock in the farthest pasture, when the herd spooked and stampeded towards them. As Naaman was overrun he remembers dropping down and rolling into a ball, but then the next thing he remembers is waking up in a cave. There was a name "Naaman Y'ross" etched in the wall of the cave. It took him 10 nights to walk back to the  village, but he was missing for 6 full weeks. He does not know where he was during that time, nor how he got so far away. I talked to the young men who were with him the day of the stampede, and they gave the story from their viewpoint, they thought he had been trampled to pieces. I walked that pasture, and saw nothing, including in astral.

That night some of our party thought somebody had messed with their bags. We realized later that it was probably members of the Hand. We asked Naaman if he would guide us back to the cave, and then accompany us back to Throal talk to the librarians. He agreed. Two of his friends started to accompany us, but Darlus threw daggers at them to run them off. It was impressive throwing, but everybody except Darlus felt it was totally and completely uncalled for and the mark of a real jerk.

Not long thereafter we realized that we were being followed. We were set upon by 7 humans. They attacked us, and then tried to run past us to get at the wagon where Naaman and Ardin were riding. We captured most of them. We saw that they all had tattoo's of a hand upon their neck/shoulder. Ardin recalled something vague about a secret society that was looking toward the reincarnation of Naaman Y'ross. The members of the hand would not talk at all, explain what they wanted or why they attacked us. We decided to skip going to the cave and take Naaman directly to Throal.

A journal entry from Barag Yurdum of House Yurdum,

There is job posting for escorting scribe named Ardin Tero to town named New Messik. Apparently, we are to talk to boy named Naman Yaras to find out if he is pre-scourage hero reborn. Then we are to escort him back if he looks to be hero named Naaman Y’ross. Others taking job are: Darius, Vallone, Strata, and Truck.

It takes almost two weeks to get to New Messik. On way to town we have altercation, I use new word, with two molgrim. They are very ugly bear-frog things. We may have disturbed their mating but they are known for attacking travelers. We were able to eliminate them fairly easily.

New Messik is well built farming town. They seem to be very industrious people. We meet town leader Akirro Skarn and wife Jana. They do not do greeting ritual and we must explain to them what it is. They are able to perform ritual eventually. We meet and talk with boy Naman after he comes back to town from shepherding. His story is that cattle stampede almost kills him and he wakes up in cave with name Naaman Y’ross carved into wall. It takes him ten days to find way back home. People in town say he was missing for six weeks so timing does not make sense. That he spent ten days in wilderness alone with no problems is very unusual. Ardin is very excited and wishes to take Naman back to Throal. We convince Naman that we need to take him back with us. Two men have volunteered to protect Naman and try to follow us but we can't have them come with us. Darius scares them off but may have overdone it causing concern with Naman and Ardin.

On way back to Throal, we are attacked by what seems to be seven assassins. We are able to win the fight and capture six. We try to interrogate but they are zealots and will not speak. They have tattoo of hand on their necks. We are not able to guard and transport them back to Throal. We also can not release them or they will attack again. We are forced to execute them before continuing on to Throal. We escort Naman and Ardin to Great Library and hand Naman over.

Vallone's Journal:
I'm starting to run low on funds. Sarell's sessions seem to be helping. She is now able to look people in the eye. I always hate leaving her behind, but I can't imagine putting her in harm's way.

I set out for Throal to find work. I found a posting for an escort job. Some history guy named Ardin Tero is heading to New Messik. He believes a hero named Naman Yaras may have been reborn there.

On the way we run into two Molgrim. Truck tried to shoo them away, but this angered the Molgrim who attacked us. We dealt with them easily. I would have just left them alone, but Darius decided to kill them to be safe.

When we got to New Messik we met with the leader Akirro Skarn. We then met with Naman who tells us there was a stampede that almost killed him. He doesn't remember anything else until he woke up in a cave ten days later with the words Naaman Y'ross written on the wall. The group convinced Naman to come back to Throal for his own safety. Some villagers wanted to protect Naman on the trip, but Darius scared them away by throwing a knife past their heads. I don't know what his deal is.

Before we can make it back to Throal we were attacked by assassins. We tried to use a bridge across a river to our advantage, but they could jump about as far as those Molgrim. They went to attack the cart, but Strata protected Ardin and Naman. We were able to knock out six of the seven assassins. Darius tried to question them, but was getting nowhere. Strata and I checked to make sure Ardin and Naman were okay while Darius did what he thought needed to be done. Maybe it was for the best. I just can't do it. I mean deaths can occur in the chaos of a fight, but these guys were tied up.

Anyways, we made it back to Throal okay from there. I can't wait to get back to Sarell.

Darius Crawford writes:

So, I took a bodyguard job from a Scholar named Ardin Tero. I was teamed with Truck, a Windling Warrior, Vallone, a Windling Shadow, Barag, a Dwarf Elementalist and Strata, an Obsidiman Gauntlet. Off we went to the Servos Jungle. We had better luck than usual with the wildlife; only had some trouble with a few beasties I'm told are called Molgrim. Shortly thereafter we made it to New Messic.

So, Tero wanted to talk to some young fellow. Thought he might be connected somehow to an old legend. So, we got the kid's story and then Tero convinced the kid to come back to Throal with us.

Seems I managed to tick off my colleagues with what came next. Two of the kid's friends wanted to come with, to protect him. I thought that was unnecessary, so I made my case that we were more than enough protection. I've found that people respond better to my arguments when I demonstrate just what I can do, so I parted one of the hanger-ons hair with a dagger.

It worked! The mini-entourage ran away home. Still though, people seemed annoyed. It's not like I was gonna hurt the runts! I just wanted to be sure they knew I meant what I meant. Anyways, it saved us a lot of trouble, so it was worth it as far as I'm concerned.

We were planning to go to some cave where the kid had his experience... I wasn't paying too much attention to all of this. However, we got jumped by a band of... I dunno... cultists? Bandits? I don't know. They all had hand tattoos for some reason. Anyways, we beat them off, and they wouldn't talk. So we decided to skip the cave and head straight home.

<Throalic year equivalent to Nov 27, 2020>

Went for a walk. Found I was walking with some adepts I knew. Said hello. They said they were looking for an ancient reincarnated Theran hero. Said OK.

There were some toad-bear Molgrums who tried to eat us. Punched them.

We got to a town. They seemed new to the outside. Said hello.

We started back to Throal with a young human. Cultists tried to kill us. Punched them.

Walked back to Throal.
