<Throalic year equivalent to Nov 5, 2020>

<From da personal journal of Strata the Obsidiman Gauntlet>

Amharan, Vallone and Trunk the windlings brought a friend of theirs ta see me. The guy was a human warrior named Red’tarian who said that he had been asked to track down a bad guy.

The bad guy was a horror cultist making monsters to kill and eat people and smooth the way for a renewed Scourge. Agreed that that guy, this Brizius dude, he needed ta be punched.

Followed the windlings n da human to a bar with a shady dwarf who said he worked for da King. Da dwarf was sending out groups o adepts to mess with da cultists. He told us an area in the foothills dat da cultists waz doing stuff in, and to go dere n stop ‘em. Not sure I trust da guy, but went along with it.

We went ta where he said n I sat in the sun for a while, looking ta see if da bad guys would show up. The stone der had a sweet, slow, warm sun song. Was nice.

Guys came by wit a cart full of a snorin critter unner a tarp. I said Hello n gave da horse n apple. Da human n one of the windlings convinced da guys wit da cart to let us tag along. We did, ta see where dey was goin. During the night, dey tried ta sneak off. We followed.
In the morning, we found were dey dumped da monster, a giant war-espagra. It was drugged n still sleepin, so I tied it up with chains den I punched it. It ain’t gonna eat no one no more.

One of da windlins found a note dey dropped; had some stuff on it about wat dey was doin.

We followed da cart tracks a long ways, to the west to the Skol mountains. We found da place where dey was doin da lab stuff on da animals ta make em into monsters. Der was a giant plant thing that licked it’s toothy maw n said yum windlins. Da windlins stayed back outta reach. Brizius was in a room with some fancy locks on it. We punched his lackey n puzzled out how ta open da door. We jammed up da other door to the area n moved da plant thing ta block it.

When we busted in on Brizius, he opened a bunch of cages n ran. Da cages waz full a meepin kittens with elementals stuffed in ‘em. Der fur was all standin up from the ‘lecticity. He was bustin thru the jam up we done on tother door while da plant said “Hi Boss”. Da windlins shot him n KO’d him. We found out he was makin da plant into a toxic bomb for da Coil river, ta poison it.

Burned most of the plant but kept a sample ‘long with his research stuff to try to get an antidote set up. We released all da animals that seemed safe n victims of the lab stuff, while putting the really dangerous things we couldn’t see setting loose down.

Brizius talked a lot on da way back; said he was only one of the Brizius’ – dey is a group. Yay.

We went back to Throal with our two captives, the research stuff n the poison sample stuff. Turned it all over to the shady dwarf.

Am not sure where all dis iz goin, but I didn’t like da sound of it.

You are reading the writings of Truck, Windling Warrior of the 3rd circle.

The Kingdom is concerned about the cult that was shipping corpses from Wolfridge to Bamor. They hired several groups to stake out various locations. They sent us to map hexs 4612 and 4613 which is not far from Kaer Bamor. They also specifically asked us to find out about Brizius Bonecall who is thought to be a breeder of crossbreed and mutant creatures.

We traveled to the location and waited several days before we saw suspicious traffic. It was a single horse drawn cart. It was escorted by 4 dwarves in grey robes. The back of the cart had a large tarp covering a box or cage, we heard something snoring loudly from the cage.  I had thought the plan was to hide and let them go by so we could follow them, but Strata thought it best to talk to them, so he approached alone. Then a few seconds later R'edtarian also got up from hiding in the bushes and joined him. Meanwhile Vallone had snuck a look under the tarp and found a very large Espagra asleep in the cage, told Amhran and I about the espagra, then went over to tell Strata and R'edtarian. When one of the guards commented that it seems like one of us was popping up from behind the bushes every minute or two, somebody said that there was only the three of them and that nobody else was behind the bushes. Then the three of them suggested that they travel with the cart for a while. So when they left with the cart, Amhran and I were left to follow the cart at a distance.

They traveled until sunset together, then made camp. Amhran and I made a cold camp about 300 yards away. In the middle of the night the cart crew silently hitched up the horse and withdrew. This was spotted by our watch, and we were a half hour or so behind them. We came to a spot where they had apparently unloaded the still sleeping Espagra. We also came upon a note that apparently fell out of the cart when they unloaded it, the first part was their instructions to unload the espagra here, the rest was instructions on what to do when they got back to their base. We killed the still drugged espagra and kept following the cart. It took us about 3 weeks! (via sossinopa to the Skol mountains, around hex 2209).

We found some large doors built into a hillside, which we opened and entered. The building seemed to be brand new and hastily constructed. There was a very large plant in a huge wheeled pot that spoke to us a lot, but did not say anything useful, it mostly just tried to lure us into getting within reach. There was also one of the dwarves from the cart there, whom we took captive. There were a large number of animals in cages, including a very huge lizard and a flaming dog. We had instructions for feeding them, and they turned out to be tame if provided with plenty of food, water, and play toys. There was a complicated sequence to unlock the coors to the lab, we unlocked it and attempted to apprehend Brizlus Bonecall. She sicked a pride of absolutly cute and adorable kittens on us. Despite being of root stock Tiger, Lion, Cheeta, and Panther, the kittens were not at all dangerous except that they were storm infused and could shoot lighting at us! Amhrán Fili soon had the kittens eating out of her hands. Meanwhile Brizius Bonecall tried to run out the other door, but Vallone made some great dagger throws and we captured her as well.

We searched the facility and found many interesting books and whatnot, but the piece of intelligence we found most disturbing was the following letter, which I copy here.

Esteemed colleagues
We write to you to request another creature. As our plans develop, the necessity for a combined threat to spread the Throal adepts thinner has become apparent. We have a desire to employ one of your simpler creature designs to poison the entire river. As you can imagine, this requires ether an excessive amount of the substance, or a substance with much more potency than is normally found. As you did such decent work with the Troll, we're sure you'll be more than capable of handling this request. We pray for your survival during the Scourge. May the Horrors purify this world.

When interrogating Brizius, she mentioned that she was not the only one operating under that name. She claimed that  10 or 20 people use that name.

We returned to Throal with our two captives, the entire library, and all the kittens and a monkey  (I am not certain how many of them Amhran Fili ended up adopting, but we found good homes for them all, I was tempted to adopt one myself). The other animals we released. We turned the intelligence over to the person who hired us.

Vallone's Journal:
Funds are starting to run low again. Fortunately I was able to find some work. Some weird guy in a robe offered me a job. He said he worked for Throal. Apparently there are some even weirder people trying to make more horrors. That is that last thing we need. He also asked Strata, R'edtarian, Truck, and Amhran. It's neat to have so many windlings in the party. Truck seems a bit more serious like me, but Amhran looks like she hasn't ever really had to fight.
Well we left for the mountains and kinda just wandered around hoping we'd find something interesting. We ran into group of travelers who had a cart covered with a canvas. Strata walked up and started talking with them. While he distracted them, I snuck up and had a look under the canvas. It was a sleeping espagra, but it was kinda weird looking. I went around and told the others. Strata, Red, and I had all introduced ourselves to these people at this point, but Truck and Amhran hid away. They couldn't come out any more because it would seem suspicious. Strata offered to travel with them for a while. Truck and Amhran trailed us. We set up camp once it got dark. The guys tried to sneak away, but I totally noticed them. I woke everybody up so we could follow. We found the sleeping espagra had been let loose in the mountains. We agreed it was too danger to leave alone so Strata killed it in its sleep. It seemed the nicest way to go. We also found a note with some instructions on how to get into some place. After looking around we found a secret entrance to what looked like some kinda animal lab. There was also this weird talking plant. We found one of the guys who we traveled with and beat him up. He told us how to open the door, which was to do all the chores. They had some neat pets like a fiery dog, a monkey, and a big lizard. Once we did the chores we opened the door and found Brizius. She let out all these electric kitties. They were more cute than scary so we focused on Brizius. She tried to get away, but I chased her down and knocked her out. They were able to question her and find out that there are more Brizius and they're all trying to make mean creatures. And that big talking plant was going to poison the river. We burned it and kept a bit to show the guy in Throal.
All in all, I'd say this was a fun adventure. We didn't even have to kill any people. And we took the kitties home.

I was working at the clinic and a strange dwarf came in, he didn't seem to be injured. He approached me and told me he worked for the Eye of Throal and that his name was Johnson. He told me that the kingdom was asking groups of adepts to search the country side searching for information about the cult calling themselves the Scourge. This would be the same group that was smuggling dead people and creatures all over Barsaive that I encountered a couple of weeks ago. That was an intense night and the first time I felt like I was helping keep the world safe. I was very interested in hearing more.

I meet up with Johnson or was Lynch now...along with Vallone a Windling shadow, Truck who is also a Windling and Amhran yet another Windling. I was joined on the body smugglers adventure by Truck and Amhran. The final member of our group was not a Windling which was stunning. Strata is an Obsidiman Gauntlet who I was sure wasn't going to be flying around any conflict.

Lynch asked us to watch over a remote stretch of road keeping an eye out for any strange travelers. After several days out in the wilderness a wagon and some travelers came up the road. I along with the Windlings hid while Strata approached the group. It quickly became obvious that Strata wasn't going to be able to get any information from our guarded travelers so I came out of hiding to converse with them. While we were talking Vallone came out and was able to look under the tarp covering the wagon that Strata tried to look under earlier. He indicated that a creature was asleep under the tarp.

I convinced the travelers that we should travel together for safety. I really just wanted to keep track of where they were going and what they indented to do with this creature. The first night of our shared journey we setup camp a little ways away to allow us to discuss our next move privately. During the night our friends snuck away or at least tried to but our watch noticed them leaving. We followed and watched as they unloaded this creature onto the road randomly. We approached and identified it as an Espagra which looked slightly off. We couldn't move it and we didn't want to leave this dangerous creature just lying in the middle of the road for some poor souls to come across. Strada quickly killed it so it wouldn't be a danger to anyone.

After this quick stop we continued to track the wagon to a set of doors in the side of a hill. We opened the door to a very strange hideout which lead me to believe that this was what we were looking for. There was a talking plant, maybe a horror?? Some corrupted dogs, a large lizard and a normal monkey. Yes a perfectly normal monkey that had a thing for flying female Windlings apparently. We had to complete some tasks in the hideout to unlock the door to the rest of the hideout/laboratory. I really need to find someone who can teach me how to pick locks just to avoid this type of nonsense in the future.

We unlocked the door and entered a home of the mad woman of this laboratory, Brizius, who unleashed her pride of cute kittens?? upon us. Truck raced into the room and was quickly surrounded while Amhran was stunned by the cuteness. Truck soon learned that this kittens packed a shocking surprise. They were infused with lightning. I moved to assist? Truck while Amhran tried to make friends with them all the while Brizius fled out the other door. Luckily Vallone with his daggers was available to cut of her escape. She wasn't much of combatant so she quickly surrendered.

We search her lab and gathered many documents which we brought with us and submitted to the authorities in Throal. We set the animals free and then burned the hideout. We kept the kittens as pets and the monkey allowed Amhran to go free.

This conspiracy involving this cult of the Scourge has me very worried and I've been very quite with my family about these missions as I don't wish to worry them. They still think that these adventures I'm going on are just like the wonderful tales in the books we read.

I want to stay involved with hunting down these cultists before they doing some lasting harm, maybe talking with Lynch and becoming involved with The Eye of Throal might be the best way to help deal with this threat.

Dearest Mishpokhe,

I find myself once again “walking” the roads with the giant Strats who had taken to kindly letting my perch upon his shoulder as we travel. This obsidiperson, who is incredibly fierce and protective in battle, is also quietly considerate in such small ways such as that. I would not have pointed it out to him as I knew it would have made him uncomfortable. We were also joined by the human R’edtarian and not one but TWO other windlings this time. Truck you know from my last letter, the fierce little warrior, and the other was one with the shadows. I don’t know what it is that she practiced or how she did but she somehow wrapped herself in shadows and would just disappear, sometimes even while you were watching her. At first I thought she might have been a thief but nothing ever went missing, so I don’t think that’s it. I’ll just have to keep watching. But I’m jumping ahead a bit.
I can’t quite remember who approached me about joining in on this trip but I know that originally R’edtarian was approached by a dwarven representative of Throal. Certainly one of my previous traveling companions mentioned me or R’edtarian thought I had something to contribute. I didn’t meet with the representative as I don’t generally go to taverns but I heard about it after. And apparently this was in regards to the same bad guys from my last letter. You know, the ones using all those bodies for nefarious purposes? Luckily we were provided a focal point in the foothills where they have been spotted several times.
It was REALLY hot there, and you all know how much I like to sweat, so it’s good we didn’t long to wait there. We were there less than a whole day really, when a cart came along with a horse and troop of guards. We were trying to decide our best course of action in regards to approaching them when Stats just up and walked up to them, you might remember I had previously mentioned he was a man of action not planning. He was also so super nice to the tired looking horsey and then kind of confrontational to the fighter types. Truck and I kept hiding but Red and Vallone went forward and I think Vallone convinced the group to allow them to travel with them. Truck and I followed behind as the surprise flank. The party wouldn’t let the other half of our group share their night time campfire with them so they had made camp nearby. Truck and I had to make a cold camp further back to avoid detection. In the middle of the night they tried to sneak off but they were NOT successful. The decision had been made to let them get a little ahead of us and join back as one full group.
They had most unkindly left the giant war espagra sleeping in our pathway. We had a difference of opinion regarding what to do with it since it appeared to be very heavily drugged. I voted to leave it there as it hadn’t hurt anyone and was sleeping. But I was soundly outnumbered once we found the note, which indicated the plan was to leave it there in a heavily traveled intersection. Strats killed it, he did it quickly and humanely at least. I was left pondering which river they could have been talking about. The note also contained instructions for entering the building at their destination point.
It took us three whole freaking weeks to get there, way to the West into the Skol mountains. At the end, we stumbled upon two huge doors built into the side of a mountain. We used the instructions in the note to open the doors and entered. Everything inside was shiny and new if shoddily constructed. And there was a VERY large plant inside that was quite charming and really wanted me to come closer. The party was able to stop me from getting close enough for me to be eaten. While I had been chatting with the big plant that had teeth the party had captured and interrogated one of the cultists. He told them that if we were to complete all the chores on a list the doors would open.
The chores ended up being fairly easy, just feeding, watering and cleaning after all the animals. They were all quite tame so it was going really well, until this monkey took a shine to me and carried me around like a doll. The party had to distract him with something else in order to make him let me go, luckily he had ALOT of toys. We managed to get the locked door open and found a woman pulling a lever to open up 4 cages along the wall and the cutest little kittens had come out. Their fur had been standing on end and had been crackling with electricity like lightning. There had been a lion, tiger, cheetah and a panther and I woo’d them with sweet words and snacks and they were cuddling with me when the party came back into the room.
They advised me that they had resolved the “issue” with that Brizius - but that there were others, she said somewhere between 10-20 people were actually using that name. And that they were planning to poison “the” river. But what river?
We came back to Throal with all of our documents/proof and our kittens - I kept a lightning cheetah. I adore him. His name is Hasani, which means handsome. He has been learning to control his lightning.

With deepest love,
Amhran
