Rumor: The village of Synevir, a small farming community on the other side of the Servos, has placed an order with a local rancher to have a herd of animals driven from Throal to their village. While the ranchhands are perfectly capable of the actual drive, the stable has decided that they need to hire some additional protection for this, since there have been reports of both animal attacks and bandits along the road.
Please contact Darren Hastings of the New Day Stables if interested.

Alternate Reward: Half Price Riding Horses, possibly other animals

I travel again with Dale the Illusionist, this time the remaining tools of war include an Obsidiman Warrior named Killian, a Human Elementalist named Orlam, and a Dwarven Scout going by Meviel.

The New Day stables in the shanty town outside Throal was prepared to send a heard of sheep to a town going by Synevir, I was unaware of this location. Wisely, Mr. Hastings knew this herd would be covetted, and knew better that the wise fighter prepares to win and then goes to war. Thus, I and my companions were hired to protect the herd and attendants.

We travelled as swift as a cart with Obsidiman could travel, thus I did not need to burden a beast with my bulky form. As such, we would be perceived as a ripe target. I knew this would move our enemies forward like a crashing wave, looking to take advantage. They would be unprepared for the earthen cliffs it would crash upon. A number of days hence we were approached by a small group of bandits, they hoped to subdue us without a fight. They attempted to extort Mr. Kain through intimidation, but he had listed and knew that he must move swiftly as the wind back to the safety of the herd and let us teach these ruffians the meaning of battle. Once battle was commenced we could see further ruffians looking to flank around and take advantage of our engagement with their vanguard. We dispatched their leader and some of his henchmen quickly and gave the remaining bandits pause. A brief show of force allowed us to turn the tables and subdue our enemies without further combat.

We recovered over the night and pressed on. As we were approaching our destination, howls and the patter of feet approached from behind us. More twisted beasts approached, these loped towards the herd, we attempted to intercept, but they ignored us and continued on. Chaos may also present opportunity, the single mindedness of the beasts allowed us to attack with more reckless abandon. As we held the beasts at bay, there was a call of wolves ahead of us. The critical position was between these beasts and the herd, the wolves were an unknown threat at this point. So we continued to push our advantage. The passions smiled upon our knowledge of war, the wolves moved in a silent hunting movement past the herd and bit into the beasts, attempting to slow and scatter them. They paid little heed to our group or the herd. This allowed us to secure our victory as planned.

We later found out that this village has negotiated protection from the spirit that ran with the wolves, and we would have been fed to the pack had we injured them. This is respectful, and why an opponent should not be assumed to be an enemy until they reveal their intentions.

Dale proved a weapon that continues to gain a greater edge as it is hone further and further, he clouded and slowed the enemies with great effect. Mevial was a great asset, flexible and adaptable in the assessment of the battlefield, but still brought to bear on the enemy like a Scythan Axe. Orlan and Killian started well, but seemed to become winded as battles pressed on, they must be further tempered in the fires of battle to help reach their full potential.

Orlam Rolfsom, Journal Entry # 1: Git Along Little Dogie!

Well, I guess this is my start. Not very impressive, but everyone has to begin somewhere. I suppose I'll get around to exploring lost kaers and such later on, but right now, I'm really just a beginner.

A rancher by the name of Darren Hastings needs guards on a cattle drive to bring a herd of sheep and goats to a community called Synevir, which can be reached by looping north around the Servos Jungle. He already has the people to drive the cattle, but a herd like that is sure to attract animal attacks, and apparently bandits have been a big problem out that way, so far from Throal, which is where we come in. Payment includes food the whole way there and back, and he even let us borrow some horses to keep pace with the herd.

Joining me were Dale, a fellow Human and Illusionist, Meviel, a Dwarf Scout, Lazulin, a Troll Raider, and Killian, an Obsidiman Warrior.
We headed north towards Sosanopa (just following the roads that way, we split off before getting anywhere near the town), and just a few days out we encountered our first threat; bandits. They sure picked the wrong group to attack, and it didn't take long for them to find out. After a couple of glancing blows from my fellows, I was able to strike down their leader, who had demanded that we give up all our money and goods, or our lives, in a single Earth Dart. We then gradually whittled down his associates, one by one, even taking them down before a single one of them could try to reach the herd. Another group was seen off in the distance, approaching from another angle, but when they saw what happened to their leader, it seemed like they remembered they urgently needed to be somewhere else. As I had struck such a mighty blow, I claimed the leader's fine silk cloak as a prize, although it would be quite troublesome getting the stains out.

We continued on for a few days more, coming up alongside a fairly small creek, when some sort of strange warped cat-like creatures came up from behind, trying to sing their teeth into a few thinking them an easy meal. Dale really proved his worth here, as he wove some magic to make them stand around dazed rather than pursue the herd, while Killian and Lazulin laid into them with axe and spear while Meviel launched a veritable hail of deadly bolts at them and I struck at them with more Earth Darts. Strangely enough, we also got assistance from a small pack of wolves that ran from ahead, straight past the herd, and tore into the odd beasts, crippling their ability to chase. One of the sheep was injured, but not too badly, and the rest of them were fine.

When we got to Synevir, we found out that the locals had come to some sort of agreement with a local Wolf Spirit to drive off other predators in exchange for being able to hunt a portion of the herd. It seemed strange to me, but I cannot deny that it seems to work. We had done well enough that the herd delivered was even more than the people had been expected, and so they paid extra for them. I expect our employer was quite pleased.

So, there's the first steps in what I hope will be a long and fruitful journey. I learned much along the way; Dale dabbles a little bit in Elementalism, and I feel like helping explain some of the points of the Discipline to him helped me solidify my own understanding. I believe I am ready to train to the second circle, and I have even been able to find a trainer that I can afford. I shall have to look for more opportunities to practice the ways of my Discipline and continue making longer and longer strides.
