From the observations of Avalandohamagannahnieventhallailmar

Recently an acquaintance of mine heard that there was a problem to the southeast. Something had been discovered, and it was dangerous, and perhaps called for further investigation from Adepts. Eager with the hope that giant spiders might somehow be involved, I agreed. As did:

Fenrir, Windling Shaman
Pethrytholilanista, Elf Nethermancer
Quis'Tan, Spirit Rider and fellow Obsid

Using some notes, we were able to travel to the area where the last scouting party had been seen. We found the corpses of a previous scouting party, recently dead, and with many claw marks. We investigated the area and Pethrytholilanista cast some manner of spell that let her experience how one of these Namegivers had died. The spell is apparently quite dangerous, for she experienced that death so vigorously that she was badly injured in the process. We learned they had been destroyed by terrifyingly gigantic insects. While she recovered, we found some stairs down into a kaer that had been opened, possibly by this same scouting party. Down seemed safer than up, where those insects might still return.

The kaer had been minimally opened, but there was enough room for us to squeak through. Not far in, we found a nest of Dread Centipedes. Having fought these before, we dealt with them very well. We were able to face them in a confined space, and the two fighters within range of their poison - Quis'Tan, and a bear that Fenrir has Named Callisto - were both given Antidotes. Without the ability to poison us, there was little they could do. The fight took some time, but eventually we were victorious. Long fights are quite beneficial with this new Grove Renewal spell that I have got.

The parts of the kaer we were able to explore had some traps. They were fairly simple, mostly involving fuel and fire. If left to run long enough, these traps might cause problems with indoor smoke, but the kaer ceilings were mostly generous.

Our explorations revealed piles of body parts. They are difficult to describe on paper, because the first two times I have tried to write this down, fire uncontrollably shot out of my Elementalist fingers, destroying the paper. These parts were... harvested, it seems, from many Namegivers, including parts of the scouting party that had died just outside of the kaer. It was not clear what they were for, but I did my best to give them a fair burial, through fire. Some of the bodies still had personal effects that could be identifying - necklaces, bracelets, and the like - and those I took, to see if they could bring comfort to any family members back in Throal.

Farther into the kaer, it became obvious that they were used to make Horror constructs. Once before, while restoring the pool of Garlen north of Throal, I fought one such construct, but the ice and show made its construction less than obvious. Here, it was more obvious. We were able to destroy one of them quickly (as is Quis'Tan's strength) but the second took somewhat longer. I came much less close to death this time.

These creatures are an abomination, and must be removed from the face of Barsaive.

Further inside the kaer, we found an additional door. We were able to speak through this door, and after a time we convinced those inside that we were not Horrors, or servants of "The Mother", whoever that is. Inside were a hundred Namegivers, mostly very young or very old. They were horrified to learn that the four of us were the entire party. They thought we were advance scouts for an entire army, and in opening the door to receive us they had broken the only seal that was keeping them safe. As there was nothing else to do, we gathered all of them and left at top speed.

Given the state of malnutrition they were in, and the relatively minimal strength of arms we had amongst 101 Namegivers, it is a miracle that we made it back to Borgan's Rest without casualties. The area of Kaer Resnick remains mostly unexplored, mostly tainted, and... whoever The Mother is, she remains at large.

From Quis'Tan's submission to the library of Throal:

A confidential source gathered a group of adventuring Adepts to investigate the safety and whereabouts of a scouting party which had apparently reached its destination but had then stopped reporting in. We reached the area easily enough and found recently dead corpses. Nista viewed the death as being from gigantic insects but was gravely hurt during the process. Given the situation, it seemed wiser to explore immediately than to remain above ground and risk exposing ourselves to the insects' attentions.

We found a partially open entrance to a kaer earlier and went in, finding a nest of Dread Centipedes. With forwarning of their poison and in the small confines of the cave we used antidote and a choke point to good effect. Particularly when combined with Grove Renewal making this long fight comparatively easy.

Exploring further I found a variety of traps which I either disarmed by triggering or left untouched. We also found typical signs of horror infestation, the details of which I do not choose to share. The bodies we burned after collecting any personal effects.

Investigating further we found horror constructs called Erlgren which we overcame. One quickly, one with more difficulty as my initial charge was spent. Victorious we were though and we proceeded to find a common area inhabited by a number of namegivers.

These namegivers were the remnants of the kaer. Apparently, the kaer had weathered the scourge successfully but been infiltrated when they opened prior to the arrival of anyone from Throal. Initially distrustful we managed to convince them to let us in. This meant, unbeknownst to us, that they had opened their last protections against the horrors. With no viable options, we braved the insects and other wildlife to bring the remaining namegivers of Kaer Resnick to Borgan's Rest as best we could. Through what must have been the intervention of Garlen or Jaspree we were not attacked on our return trip.
