Notes submitted by Osahar

A dwarf, Brimbli, approached myself and a few others in the Bazaar, looking for help with gathering some materials. Besides myself, there was Aegharan, an Elf Illusionist, Vilhelm, and Elf Swordmaster, and Rilya, a Windling Weaponsmith. All of us agreed to help out Brimbli and headed out to Borgan's Rest.

The first item Brimbli needed was a pair of pliers that the smith at Borgan's Rest was holding on to. We went to the smith and Rilya was able to sweet talk him out of the pliers. An easy first step.

The second thing he needed was a special kind of wood from the jungle. We set out the next morning and we were eventually able to find the kind of tree he needed. But, as we started cutting it down, we were attacked by monkeys. We killed the monkeys with little in the way of wounds and finished cutting down the tree.

The third item was some kind of herb. After looking for it for two days, we finally found what we needed on top of a large boulder. Rilya flew up and was able to gather what was needed.

The last item was some kind of gland from an adult genhis. I was able to track on down without much problem, but the Brimbli said we had to take it alive, knock it unconscious, or be able to kill it without great bodily harm. So, we started off with Rilya calming the animal down and then I snuck up on it and tried to slit its throat with a borrowed sword...that did not go well. It ended up we finally had to kill it, but had to be careful to only hit it in the head.

After that we spent a day hunting for alchemical materials before heading back to Borgan's Rest and then Throal. On the road between Borgan's rest and Throal, we were set upon by bandits. After a tough fight, we were able to defeat all of the bandits and made it back to Throal safely.

From the Journal of Rilya, a Windling Weaponsmith exploring the wilds outside of Throal

I have just returned from my first expedition outside the gates of Throal. Seems there was a Dwarf who needed some stuff from outside, and he needed an escort. He hired (more like dragged) a few likely looking vict… err, candidates from the market (not how I would have done it, but whatever works, eh). He was a very friendly sort, by the name of Brimbli Elwick Bizzspanner by Rock Nibbler the III, though he did seem a bit… preoccupied, and maybe a bit flighty. Anyway, he needed a few things: his pliers from Borgan’s Rest, some wood from a tree in the jungle, a weird herb, and then a special gland from a genhis. Aside from myself (the only Windling surrounded by a group of elves (and the dwarf, of course, but he was doing the hiring, so he doesn’t really count)), there were a few other adepts roped into this endeavor: Aegharan the Illusionist, Osahar the Archer, and Vilhelm the Swordmaster. We set off pretty much immediately, taking a few days to get down to Borgan’s Rest.

Upon arriving, we had to present the guards with works of art in order to prove we weren’t tainted by the Horrors. What an experience that was. Watching Osahar carve his arrows, and Vilhelm’s dance…. I did a really good tattoo to commemorate my first trip outside. Maybe I’ll do a smaller, stylized version to mark the event. They were satisfied (after a second try from Osahar), and were went inside to find Lareth, the town blacksmith (and mayor, I came to learn). Brimbli had lent him his pliers, and then later an altercation ensued, and he was too afraid to go get them himself. We were asked to do it. The smith’s workshop was nice. He does good work, and we got along very well. I’ll be making a trip out there later to study and lend a hand, I’m sure. It wasn’t much of an issue getting the pliers, after we made sure to let him know that Brimbli would be around to make amends. (Next time I’ll have to remember to elbow Aegharan to use his Adept abilities, though). The rest of the night passed uneventfully, aside from the town drunk and Troubadour singing a bawdy song that didn’t really make sense after the second stanza. Quite drunk indeed. He passed out later on, and was still that way when we left the next morning.

Our next stop was the edge of the jungle, to track down that tree. It took a bit, but we found the thing. And wouldn’t you know it, in the middle of the chopping, some monkeys (resus macaques, the first ones I’ve ever seen, only read about them before) took exception to us, or maybe they just thought a group of elves didn’t belong in their forest. My companions made short work of them, with only a couple bite marks to show for their efforts against us. I’m not much good in combat, so it’s a good thing I wasn’t the only escort. I did take a tooth, and am working on decorating it for a necklace for later. Back in town I’ll be able to give it the proper treatment.

Our next task took a bit of getting to, as we wandered around in the jungle a bit aimlessly (or maybe it was lost, I don’t know) for longer than we should have (mental note, learn how to navigate in the wilderness, your city style maps do no good out here). But we made it to the herbs that Brimbli was looking for, nicely situated atop a small rise. It was simple work to fly up and gather the parts he needed. Though maybe the elves would have had a bit of an issue if I weren’t around. Who knows. Anyway, 3 down and one to go. Off to find the Genhis.

Thanks to Osahar’s phenomenal tracking skills, finding it was easy. I approached it with grass and a calm demeanor, easily getting close to it and distracting it while Osahar snuck up to slit it’s throat. That didn’t go quite so easy, and we had to take it down quick before it ran away, while only hitting it in the head, so as not to damage what the dwarf needed. It really didn’t stand a chance, truth be told. Afterwards, he cut out a sack and then burned the young that were growing inside, then claimed what he needed (still not entirely sure what it was, I was busy with calming Ixran down, the cries from the fire sort of disturbed him). We then spent a day out in the wilds looking for suitable alchemical reagents for Aegharan and myself. The elf did a much better job, but I found a few. They look a bit different and are harder to spot out in the wild and not in a cultivated garden.

On the way back to Throal, we were interrupted (ambushed!!!) by a group of bandits preying on the road from Borgan’s Rest to the city. That is a group of bandits that won’t be bothering any other travelers. But it worries me. If there was one group, there might be more. Maybe I should see about finding out if there have been other sightings, and what the plan is to get rid of them. I’ve heard of cultists out in some kaer, but nothing about bandits yet. Still, perhaps they are better left to those more experienced in combat threats.

My first adventure outside of Throal. And a good success. I made some new friends, and even met real, actual bandits, like in the books. I can’t wait to go back and see what the world holds. But I do have to spend time keeping my skills up to date, too. Can’t neglect my training. But until next time, journal, Rilya out.

(A crudely made and purely artistic "map" is included with this entry. It has no value as anything other than a picture).

From the Journal of Vilhelm -Swordmaster

While in the market place, I met a dwarf named Brimbli. He was looking for a group to travel with him on a small group for a short excursion. He really did not give me much choice, but since this would be my first time out, I was just happy to be able to join. We were joined by Rilya, a Windleng Weaponsmith, Aegharan, an illusionist and Osahar, an archer.

Brimbli lead us to Borgan’s Rest. It is a small settlement about 3 days south of Throal. Brimbli wanted to retrieve a pair of pliers that he loaned to the local smith. Apparently, the smith and Brimbli had a falling out. Brimbli went to the tavern while he sent us to retrieve the pliers. The smith was reluctant to give the pliers back. Aegharan and Rilya convinced him to give us the pliers and we returned them to Brimbli.

Our next task was to collect a wood from a special kind of tree. It grew in the jungle and I am still am not sure what kind of tree or what was so special about it. We cut it down. While we were cutting the tree into sections, we were attacked by a group of monkeys. I guess they liked that tree. We dispatched the monkeys, but I was wounded. Brimbli took treated my wound and did a good job. My wound healed quickly. I could have done this myself, but I did not have a healing kit. I need to get one of those.

The next task, was to find a herb. I forget what it was called or why he needed it. I just know it took us a few days to find it. I think we were a bit lost, but I do not know. The herb was on a small plateau about 20 yrs up. No problem for Rilya, who just flew up and collected what Brimbli needed.

The last thing that Brimbli needed was a gland from a adult genhis. Oshar tracked down one fairly quickly. Brimbli was stated that we had to be careful to kill the genhis without damaging the gland. Rilya calmed the beast while Oshar tried to sneak up on the beast and slit it’s throat with my sword. Oshar crept up on the genhis, but was not able to kill it. He was as good with a sword as I would be with his bow. But together, we were able to kill the beast and harvest the gland.

On our return trip back to Throal, we were attacked by some highwaymen. They used standard hit and run type tactics. They knew what they were doing and they were pretty good at it. We were better. During the battle, Aegharan cast a spell on me that enhanced my ability to hit them. But even with that help, I was wounded. The rest of the return trip was uneventful.

I am now back a Throal. I am resupplied and I have purchased some new equipment. My wound is all healed up. I look forward to the next adventure.

A friendly, albeit a little quirky dwarf named Brimbli hired us to escort him while he retrieved some curious items he needed for his works. We later learned that escorting Brimbly seems to imply also doing the work for him.

Our group consisted of Osahar, whom I had travelled with before, Vilhelm the Elf Swordmaster and Rilya the tiny Weaponsmith. We started out heading to Borgan's Rest where Brimbli asked us to retrieve his pliers from Lareth, the town's Mayor and Weaponsmith. Brimbli was keen to avoid Lareth at all costs for some kind of feud between them, that he didn't elaborate on. It seems Lareth is somewhat a difficult character or I must not have made a good fisrt impression, as when I asked for the pliers, he picked them up and told us he was busy, we should clean out the stables across the street and when we return he would be ready. Rilya found a better connection (which totally has to do with him being a weaponsmith, not with me being to arrogant to think about using my Talents) and he convinced Lareth to use another pair that was lying around in his workshop.

Next stop was to retrieve some special kind of wood. Thankfully I remembered the boring lessons about plants in our surrounding area and we found a tree of the kind we needed rather quickly. Maybe it would have been wise to chose somebody for the escort who is trained in Navigation, if Brimbli as our lead didn't know where to find the tree in question himself.
Some monkeys took us (Vilhelm) hacking away at the tree (I think bringing an Axe would have helped greatly) not very pleasently and tried to scare us off. We didn't really try to spook off the monkeys, but got rid of them either way.

The next part in question was some special kind of herb Brimbli needed. As he had no idea where to look and we didn't have the best idea about where we were, it took us a little time to find some. Rilya easily flew up to the top of a small hill and retrieved the samples that Brimbli needed.

The last missing item was a certain kind of gland from an adult Genhis. Thanks to Osahar's extraordinary tracking skills we found one really quickly. Brimbli then told us, that we must kill the Genhis, but avoid damaging its body at all costs. What followed was the worst kind of heist ever seen, as again we were unprepared. Had we had some kind of rope to tie down the Genhis, or food to distract it, or some kind of stronger weapon to decapitate it cleanly, we would probably have made a much better show. What happened was that Rilya succeeded in feeding the Genhis some grass and calming it, even turning it around. Vilhelm than successfully sneaked up from behind and struck at its neck. Yet his sword didn't sever the head, but somewhat stuck there lopsided. The Genhis got angry and we took turns in shooting, stabbing and casting at it from weird angles to not hurt its body. That poor animal did not have the quick death it deserved.

Before going back we happened to have some luck and found some herbs that Rilya and I could use for potion-making.

On our way back we were ambushed by some bandits. Their leader stopped us on our way and ordered us to lay down our weapons. We of course did not comply after spending several days of crawling through the forest and I tried to distract them by letting voices appear from one of the near bushes. Sadly they must have seen me moving my lips and 3 more bandits where hidden in bushes near us, 2 of them very closes to where the voices came from. As they saw me performing magic, they concentrated their arrows onto me, which hurt really badly.
Maybe I should not have made the voices shout for "the dwarf" angrily, as Brimbli's reaction was to cower in fear for the rest of the fight.
The bandits used the terrain to their advantage, dropping in and out of sight through bushes and landing some shots in between, but we made good work of them, even if the fight was closer than I would have liked.

If I ever go out on some mission to escort Brimbli again, I will make sure to ask him what we need, where we find it and what we need to retrieve said items before we head out of Throal, as it could have spared all of us a lot of time.
Other than that he is a really cheerfull little fellow who understands to entertain a group through sheer talking alone, even for several days straight.
