From the journal of August Rey.

Cheif Ixta of Iceclaw Moot has finally had enough of the many-legged freaks infesting the lands around her home. She is recruiting Adepts to root out these pests once and for all, starting with the ants. Answering her call was Bob the Obsiiman Warrior, Jik'escala the T'Skrang Swordmaster, and Fredi and myself, Dwarf Cavalry mounted upon Trojin.

We traveled to the moot with a caravan, so the going was very slow, but uneventful. At the moot we spoke with the chief who was kind enough to assign a young hunter to guide us to the lair. Upon entering the lair, we were not disciplined in our advance, and just kind of strolled along without bothering to keep in formation, as a result, when we encountered opposition, we allowed members of our party to be surrounded. First it was Bob, then he extracted himself only when Jik'escala sacrificed position, allowing herself to be surrounded instead. When she pulled back, I could have been surrounded, but fortunately by then there were so few survivors that they could no longer pull off coordinated attacks any more. The initial fight nearer the entrance was against two waves of attackers, I think in all there were about 4 each of drones, soldiers, and Praetorian guards, maybe.

After that brutal fight, we were very much more careful to advance in formation, side by side so that ambushing ants could not skitter past our line to surround the leader. Or at least we were very careful until we actually encountered enemies again, Jik'escala was attacked by an ant, and Fredi, seeing movement ahead, rushed forward and was ambushed. This last group was just a few guards surrounding the queen, It was another brutal fight, but we dispatched them all and emerged victorious.

There was much rejoicing in Iceclaw Moot when we told the tale and displayed our trophies. After I returned to Throal I trained to be a Journeyman Cavalry.

From the Journal of Jik'escala, T'Skrang Swordswoman Extraordinaire:

1 Borrum, 1424 T.H.
The Iceclaw Moot has posted a bounty for red ants and since I have some experience fighting these ferocious creatures, I have asked a few friends to come join me on a trip up into the mountains. We're heading out with the last caravan before the mountains become impassable.

7 Borrum
Having arrived at Iceclaw Moot, we met with their leader Ixta inside their tavern hall. She informed us that they had located the ant's nest and would bring us there, which is good because none of us are competent Navigators (we need to work on that). She offered us one of her scouts as guide.

10 Borrum
We arrived at the entrance of the cave and I was initially concerned it was no longer occupied. As we began exploring, the cave complex initially appeared deserted as well. We allowed ourselves get too lulled and as a result when we did encounter resistance, Bob was quickly surrounded. We were able to make a hole for him but Fredi and Su just ended up taking his place as surrounded. We developed some combat discipline eventually, and took turns holding the line and pushing forward, allowing us to slay a dozen of the beasties.

After a brief rest, we pressed forward more conservatively, mapping out the maze of tiny passages until we found a large open room with more red ants. Fredi charged forward, springing the trap nicely and we all jumped down to aid her. A massive red ant with a bulbous and bloated abdomen (surely the Queen) attacked me and I spent the last of my luck getting out of her way. With all the insects slain, we returned to Iceclaw for our reward.

PCs:
August Rey, male Cavalrydwarf
Bobitanthalnasatrythomoloso, Obsid Purifier
Fredi Dram, female Cavalrydwarf
Jik'escala, female T'Skrang Swordmaster

NPCs:
Ixta, Troll Chieftain
Nightstalker, a Troajin
Su, a Troajin

this is the after action report by fredi dram, cavalrydwarf for red with rage, a trip to the ice claw moot to fight red ants

so su and i got together with some folks like bob jikescala and august to go to the ice claw moot and fight some ants for them bob is an obsidiperson with a like really long name like avalan does but hes a warrior and jikescala is a tskrang swordmaster and august is a cavalrydwarf like me except hes a boy

so we went to the ice claw moot and talked to the chief and she was cool and she told us how to find the ants lair or maybe you call it a den or a colony, i don't know which word is the right one. anyway we didn't have any problems on the road or on the way to the den but man fighting the ants was tough. we didnt have any spellcasters and in the narrow tunnels it was hard for all of us to get up close to the ants to fight them unless one of us got surrounded and that was bad. su and i got surrounded once but we managed to kill an ant and get away. we tried to back up enough to charge but everytime either the ants blocked the tunnel so i couldnt charge the ones in the back or the tunnel was so bendy i couldnt back up far enough to charge. i also got too excited once and got too far ahead of the rest of the party but we ended up being able to kill those ants easy so it wasn't too bad.

it was kinda cool being able to hang out with another cavalrydwarf with a troajin like me usually the other cavalrypeople are other races or have different mounts and stuff but august was cool and his mount mounstalker and su got along i just hope su doesn't go have kittens cuz we wouldnt be able to adventure for a while and i would have more troajins to take care of and i would have to find them namegivers to take care of them and most people suck at being cool to animals. also i was able to scrape together the stuff to go up circle when i got home so now im a journeydwarf 5th circle cavalryrider thank you very much and ma was impressed enough that she was finally willing to admit that im grown up now. she finally told her bartenders it was okay to stop watering my beer! not like i couldnt get full beer before but most of the bartenders were not willing to slip me one in case ma caught them and fired them or docked there pay or something. so im not embarrassed to invite other adventurers over to hang out anymore i guess that stuff should not go in my official report oops

From the battle logs of Bobitanthalnasatrythomoloso:

The Trolls of the Iceclaw Moot have, for some time, been besieged by giant ants. Their chieftain, Ixta, has finally had enough and sent out word that adepts were requested to deal with the problem once and for all.

Travel wise, this was the easiest job I've taken since coming to Throal. We accompanied a caravan to Iceclaw, and ran into no difficulties whatsoever. With me were three Adepts I'd not worked with previously: two Cavalrymen, Fredi Dramm and August Rey, plus a T'Skrang Swordmaster by name of Jik'escala. It was the first job I've done without spellcasting support. I rather missed having a spellcaster around, although my comrades, being of higher Circles than I was, were more than competent.

From Iceclaw we were led to the nesting place of the Queen Ant by a young Troll. Again, we encountered no difficulties during transit. Would that all my travels were so trouble free!

Being of slightly tougher stuff than my companions I took the lead as we entered the nest. This proved to be a major tactical error, as I was quickly surrounded and the ants began to carve me up. With help from Fredi I was able to retreat and use my Fire Blood to heal.

After finally defeating the first wave, we endeavored to face the rest in a more intelligent fashion. For the most part, this more cautious approach was a success, although there were some issues with Fredi getting out of position. After quite a bit of fierce fighting we were able to confront and kill the queen.

With the Iceclaw Moot quite happy with our results, we returned to Throal. I was happy to claim some healing aids at bargain prices from the Moot, and have also invested in a Garlen Stone to help with my wounds.
