Renegade Legion Lost?

Many of the fans of Renegade Legion would like to know if this new company that is producing Renegade Legion is legitimate. The last we heard FASA was working on getting the license back did this fall thru? We believe that FASA should address this as we the fans do not wish to support a game that is misrepresented. Please respond.

I'm not involved in the licensing/legal end of things, and so don't really know details...

But this came out of left field. We don't know who's doing this, or how they got a license (if they actually have one).

So... *puzzled shrug*.

I realize that isn't much help, but it's all we have right now.

From what we’ve been able to find out they’ve applied for a trademark for the R and the various game names. They have refused to answer when they’ve been asked if they purchased the IP. I would suggest that you legal people get ahold to I believe it’s TOPPS’s legal people and short this out quickly. I would think it’s in both your interests to short this out quickly.

I have a update for you they just admitted they do not have the rights to the IP but are using the setting and trying to steal the trade marks. They are also claiming to be reimagining The Renegade Legion game line.

Some info:

https://www.bizapedia.com/fl/budgie-smuggler-games.html

https://www.bizapedia.com/fl/renegade-legion-llc.html

Looks like a one-person LLC (from the latter link) by the name of Joshua Perian.

https://www.bizapedia.com/people/joshua-perian.html

Who also co-owns a brewery.

https://www.bizapedia.com/fl/flying-boa ... y-llc.html
https://flyingboatbrewing.com/

For those who are not aware, budgie smuggler is an Australian term for "very tight" men's speedos or swimming trunks. A word of caution if you look this up on the Interwebs, of course. (Those of us from or originally from Down Under have already had our corneas destroyed from such sights, so we're safe. :D )

Looks like there is a Matt Alexander as well, who seems to be from Australia, so the company name makes more sense now.

From one of their Alpha books, their claimed legalese:

Renegade Legion, “R”, TOG, Centurion, Interceptor, Leviathan, Legatus and
Xenovita are trademarks and/or registered trademarks of Budgie Smuggler
Games, in the United States and/or other countries.
Copyright © 2020 Budgie Smuggler Games. All rights reserved.

And their design team:

Developer
Joshua C. Perian
Matt Alexander

Art Director & Designer
Dale Eadeh

Lead Artist
Jordan Cuffie

Assistant Rules Developer
John Haward

Editor & Designer
Jena Perian

Imperator Imperio, The First Renegade
Harry Romulus Alexander

Here one of their trademark applications still not approved no lawyer listed for them.
https://tsdr.uspto.gov/#caseNumber=9010 ... atusSearch a friend dug this up to.
Doing some digging the address for BSG is the same as the Flying Boat Brewing Company and Joshua C Perian is a principal of FBBC.

Looks like the TM application has been refused.

I want to wish them well - but I don't see why you would want the Renegade legion Trademark if you can't sue the mechanics, story or background. TOG isn't even the Terran Overlord Government and there is no Commonwealth - and while they may get the TM for the R symbol, the TOG symbol is an actual design - with art - and that screams copyright more than trademark.

I get that BSG are made up of fans and that they want to "continue" Renegade Legion...and I admire them for that and want them to succeed - but is it Renegade Legion if you can't use the art, the aliens, the story, thenm tech, the vehicles, if there is no TOG, no Commwonwealth, if the game mechanics are very different....

They've slapped a few RL trademarks on a game and history of their own design - and I don't see the point.
