It won't.

I'll be honest, we haven't even really talked about it. I've had one character in my various campaigns use a familiar (it was a Beastmaster), and I wasn't especially impressed. I even developed a custom magic item that made the familiar/animal companion more useful. If I think back, a lot of the new developments for Beastmaster companions came out of that experience.

I'm not sure what else to say about that right now. I'm trying to finish up the final work on the Questor mechanics, and I'll talk to Morgan and see what he thinks. Familiars, along with a couple of other magic-related stuff that also isn't in the Companion (like Named spells) are kind of pinned to the work board, and would most likely fit in the Grand Bazaar/Mystic Emporium book we're looking at (which will sort of be a catch-as-catch-can of stuff that didn't fit in the Companion, or needed a bit more development time).
