I think the general idea is that you are "faking out" your target, who is totally surprised when you jump over him.

From a mechanic point of view, It obviously would not be MD. One could make an argument that Vault Opponent ought to go against PD, but you are already going to be melee attacking him, so I am sure it is much funner to make an SD test then a PD test rather than two PD tests. Also, by the time you get Rank 6 Knacks, almost everybody has lower SD than PD, so a test against SD is much easier to succeed at.
