Gruv Lancer Snail
A creature (1st draft for workshopping) Gruv Lancer Snail This spiral-shelled monstrosity is the size of a bull mastif. The shell is usually patterned with dark and light stripes to make it more difficult to spot in the foliage. Slow but deadly, the Gruv Lancer Snail is an ambush hunter. When prey c...

Re: Animal Training: What is and isn't one "Command". Also, what does it mean for a mount to be "Combat Trained".
To be perfectly honest, I've never loved the 'command slot' mechanic. At rank one I can teach an animal to kill but not heel? Or I can teach it to heel but not kill? It seems pretty restrictive, to be honest. I had something written up at some point for an earlier edition, and I can't find it now. B...

Re: Making Characters
What are generic magical foci used for? If you have one keyed to your target, I know it gives you advantages in spellcasting. Mages have a magical focus listed among their possessions, but what does it do? It is separate from the grimoire, yes? If it's stolen other mages can use it as a weapon again...

Toolkit
The toolkit you're talking about in the blog sounds really cool. How about new beasties, or adding a masks like Earthdawn is doing? And what about mythical beasts? Will we be seeing stuff like redcaps and wendigos? One of my favorite things about 1879 is how exhaustive the research is; I'd love to s...

Yeah, it uses Capital Letter Surprise, so there are implications there.

Re: Conceal object
Yes, she can conceal them all in the morning when she dresses, making a separate test and taking strain for each, and there isn't a limit for how long it lasts. (I would also accept making the roll at the time of the perception, as long as the thief declared she was concealing the daggers prior to t...

A non-combat trained mount has its own initiative and is controlled by the GM, right? So it moves on it's own and then you have to attack from where ever it winds up. I would say the rider can make Trick Riding (since there's not an Equestrian talent) test to direct the mount to where it wants it to...

Re: Making Characters
Meh, I think it's within whatever for 1st edition of a brand new sort of game. I'm really chewing into it because I don't quite have enough time to run a proper game yet, but hopefully will within a month or two (as I've been saying all year ...) so anything I find I'll post. You know I don't mind s...

Re: NPC Only Disciplines.
This is what I use: Half-adepts have access to some magic, but are untutored. Some have the potential to become adepts, but some do not and no one knows what makes the difference. They have one key skill or talent tied to their calling, such as melee weapons for a fighter, agriculture for a farmer, ...
