Re: Hold Thread
Another idea is to pay 1 strain per round to hold the threads, but everytime you cast it you must pay X strain in addition to any other strain costs the spell normally requires and the 1 strain per round the talent normally requires. Where X is equal to the number of threads being held. This represe...

Re: Hold Thread
(1) That's actually harder than what I meant. I imagined you need to get 1 success per unheld thread before rolling the next Threadweaving test. (a) So, your example.... Round 1, weave 1 thread, roll hold thread and get at least 1 success Round 2, weave 2 threads, roll hold thread and get at least 2...

Re: Hold Thread
Good analogy. Sometimes you lay 1 brick down (1 TW success) and sometimes more (multiple TW successes), but then you need to put down the mortar, like you said, before putting any more bricks down. Except casting the spell doesn't knock it down. The point is that it is still standing after multiple ...

Re: Animal Bond + Dominate Beast, acceptable combination? Plus other AB & DB stuff
Really, especially for DB, I'd say talk with the player, find out how he thinks his character would perform the Talent, and that establishes the range. This is, more than anything, a great opportunity for the player to flesh out how his character interacts with the world around him, actually think ...

Re: Hold Thread
Your revision to Hold Thread (HT) is interesting. It addresses the shortcoming with usefulness by allowing stacked effects for multiple threads. My fear is that you end up with a CRIPPLING cost: if you want to bank three threads, for example, you end up paying 6 Strain before your first real "fully...

Re: Dumb Questions
Every movie or show ever where a character attempts to placate a beast reaches their hand out to touch the animal's head and says, "Easy, girl, easy. I'm not gonna hurt'chya." Sometimes they get bitten, sometimes not. This is Animal Bonding. Except Crocodile Dundee. He does that thing with his hand ...

Re: Hold Thread
Other examples of when holding a Thread would be useful: Playing royal guard to the king as he meets with the enemy general to demand surrender before the battle. You expect betrayal, despite promises of safe conduct, so you keep a spell threaded and ready. Exploring the Kaer, you hear noises. Unsur...

...there is this grey area like lockpicking or research that you can spam until success... You can't spam Research. If you fail, it means you didn't find anything. You have to come up with a new tactic in order to reroll (like this time asking the librarian, or something). Failed lockpicking doesn'...

Re: Info Search - cost of Elemental Kernels
For the sake of Rags's sanity, I also glanced through "Arcane Mysteries," and no love. I'd say his memory would be spot on, though, if this were to exist somewhere in ED1: this is where all the magic items realistically for sale in the then-universe are tallied, whether in the Core Rules, the Compa...

Re: [3ED/4ED] New Blood Magic
I like the flavor of having the True Name, but I'm not going to fight on that point. Your Earthdawn, etc., and all that. Not everyone would accept a Blood Oath to "do my best." Some don't care that you tried really, really hard. They want it done, and they expect it done. Others, yeah, more lenient....
