Re: Wind Catcher is a Standard Action?
I don't know what to tell you. You seem fairly set on not wanting to try to find interesting things to do with the Talent, which is a shame. There are plenty of great applications, a few of which I enumerated, and Great Leap does NOT do "almost all of those things better" (one has distance of 10-20,...

Re: Wind Catcher is a Standard Action?
Basically as the example implies - jumping from high. Dramatic entry, sneak attacks, boarding parties, expedited escape, avoid risky situations (and climbs down), impossible leaps (yes, at downward angles, but still), entering otherwise inaccessible areas - these are things that come to mind after o...

Re: Wind Catcher is a Standard Action?
Not really much I can say productively in response to your post. The one thing I would encourage you to do is talk to your GM, ask about swapping out the Talent Option with a different option. GMs tend to be fairly reasonable, especially if the sense of disappointment is just something that's going ...

Re: Wind Catcher is a Standard Action?
Wind Catcher can be used during long falls (195+ yards) even if you have already used your action and get knocked overboard, or whatever. I think that's the crux of this question - can Wind Catcher be used reactively rather the proactively. There's nothing in the Player's Guide, that I'm aware of, ...

Re: Wind Catcher is a Standard Action?
Especially since Gliding Stride is a Journeyman TO for Elementalists and Swordmasters only, while Wind Catcher is a Novice TO for Air Sailors and Sky Raiders only. Talking about talent overlap here seems to be an extraordinarily edge case, and reasoning about what a multi-discipline Swordmaster / A...

Re: Wind Catcher is a Standard Action?
Standard Action doesn't necessarily preclude some of the situations you describe - it just means you need to have the time and the wherewithal to make a Standard Action. Time shouldn't be a problem, this is made for long falls. Wherewithal could be a problem, like if you're knocked unconscious, but ...

Re: Faster Casters?
As a limited answer, addressing just your questions: - if she's Human, she could pick up one of the many Initiative-improving Talents via versatility - if she's wearing armor with an initiative penalty, she could swap out with an alternative that has no penalty or with a Thread Item whose ranks even...

Re: Mounts with Stealthy Stride
Everyone seems to be forgetting that illusion magic is happening. I don't think anyone is forgetting that. It is *highly* unlikely that a mount's Stealthy Stride is magical. It's also not a guarantee that the rider's ability is a Talent. Regardless, there's nothing suggesting that Stealthy Stride i...

Re: Pattern Items and True Patterns?
Group Pattern use Pattern Items, but that doesn't mean all Pattern Items are used for Group Patterns. The book doesn't make that limitation, there's just more specific and actionable content on Group Pattern stuff (as it's likely to be more front-and-center for play groups). Group Patterns aren't us...

Re: Mounts with Stealthy Stride
Stealthy Stride is the ED equivalent of both Hide and Sneak. It is a bit weird that it isn't a default skill, but c'est la vie. Wanna hide in place? Stealthy Stride. Wanna move without being seen? Stealth Stride. As far as all this mount stuff goes, ask yourself this: if two people are moving in a g...
