New question which might merit clarification.
Q: After modifiers, what is the minimum Difficulty Number for Action Tests?
In ED1, it was 2. In ED4, can't find a reference for this. This affects situations where modifiers affect a Defense Rating to very low values (even negative values).

Re: [ED1] Item with Thread Weaving bonus
Any time. And useful info to know about what spell you're aiming for! :) So Enhanced Matrix will save you a thread (you probably already know this?), so you are down to one spell thread at Weaving Difficulty 13, for Damage Shift. It's a Circle 7 spell, so you'll have an Enhanced Matrix (which you pi...

Re: [ED1] Item with Thread Weaving bonus
It doesn't seem to be higher than in other editions. And I also never had problems with reattuning. I could only see a problem there when you're playing an obsidiman or troll and just have a D4 as Karma dice. Hiya, Just wanted to add Reattuning OTF as "another" reason to have a better Thread...

Re: [ED1] Item with Thread Weaving bonus
Reattuning On The Fly is also a consideration (ED1 Rulebook, p.154), for when you have the wrong spell in your matrix and you need that "Kill Horrible Thing!" spell right now (Reattunement Difficulty Numbers tend to be a lot higher). Magicians with a high Thread Weaving Step don't tend to be as conc...

Re: [ED1] Item with Thread Weaving bonus
Hiya, Honestly, I wouldn't use Spellcasting to weave a thread (that's not how Spellcasting works ... it casts spells, while Thread Weaving ... weaves threads). In terms of creating an item that enhances Thread Weaving, as I noted, the few items that enhance Thread Weaving are specific about the type...

Re: [ED1] Item with Thread Weaving bonus
Hiya, There aren't many items (common magic, blood charms, thread items, magical treasures) that augment Thread Weaving. Thread Weaving is integral to, well, weaving threads to things, so items that provide a bonus are a rare thing, compared to those that affect Spellcasting. Additionally, Thread We...

Re: Orichalcum (and True Elements)
Hiya, ED1, "Magic: A Manual of Mystic Secrets." Quoting first few sentences from the True Elements section, p.53 (bolding mine): "The True elements are the magical essences of the five elemental planes --air, earth, fire, water and wood--concentrated into physical form on the material plane. These h...

Re: New Magic Book
Ok thanks So what does a spell caster do for spells beyond 8th? For ED4? Hold off on using Circle 9+ spells until there is a formal announcement and release of the Magic book. Or if you have access to earlier editions of Earthdawn, you could use those spells in the interim -- though you will likely...

Re: New Magic Book
Is the newly released magic book the one that enables spellcasters to use spells beyond 8th circle? Hiya, There is no "newly released magic book" but If you mean the ED4 Companion, then no. If you are referring to the currently-being-kickstarted ED4 Mystic Paths book, probably not -- that's focused...
