Re: How I'm doing random encounters right now
These are great guys! I have a "Hazards" system in the new airship travel rules. I also have extended it to a full Random Encounter system, but I cut that part for space. Some really neat ideas here, & I love the terrain breakdown. Panda has some notes on creatures and terrain on his blog as well. I...

Re: Pattern Items and True Patterns?
1a) 100%. In my games it usually takes a bit more than just creating the item. Grimoires are a good example because they have an intimate connection to your own pattern (scribing spells into the pattern of your grimoire then allows you to re-call the spell-patterns into your own pattern for RAW magi...

Re: Does anyone know the name of the Throal airships?
I remember running the battle in 1e/early2e. At least 2 of the ships were not named - probably so the GM can name them & tie it to thier version of Barsaive.
"IMB" (In My Barsaive) was a common abbreviation in the old (now nonexistant) forums & fan site forums.

Re: Fire canons and Missile Weapons
Thanks James! One other thing to note - because 1e combined all guns on a ship into one rating - you rarely roll damage for a single fire cannon. There is only one reference in 1e, but it does say cannons do Step 25 damage to anything they hit. In my games that is an area 3 hexes in diameter (a cent...

Re: Entertainer Talent for Troubadour
Good options there. RAW would seem to mean that Troubadours probably do have a specialty as-a-skill when Novices, if they want to.

Re: Entertainer Talent for Troubadour
I like Slimcreeper's idea, and I would implement it with Knacks. I'd have to re-read the knacks from the Companion, Questors, and Paths to see if there's any useful ones to model it after.

+1
They are described as "something akin to pink-pick holes to the elemental planes" in some of the novels, and one of the 1st edition preview stories describes fire-cannon as "mana burst cannons"
