Re: Just a nudge on the pulp dial
This is why I start by asking the players what they want to accomplish. I divert the Butt Kickers to the straight up fighting types, send the Puzzle Solvers to Professions like the Investigator or Journalist, and generally recommend the Mage, Priest, Shaman, Weird Scientist, or Medium to the Storyte...

Re: Just a nudge on the pulp dial
Military Officer, Tribal Warrior get Second Attack at Warden. That'll be in the Players Companion. Let's assume a Mage with a Perception and Willpower of 16, to hit the breakpoint, giving a Step of 7. At a Professional Rank of 5, starting into Journeyman, they learn Willforce. Toss a couple of Ranks...

Re: Just a nudge on the pulp dial
As far as appropriate to game, it's your campaign. If it works for you, use it. I generally use Warping Tests only if the caster is working in a toxic environment - someplace that's Tainted or Corrupted. This isn't Earthdawn, where tossing a raw spell in Open territory risks bringing a Horror down o...

Re: Changing Themes
Depends on my available cycles. Right now, I haven't got any, as I'm head down making sure that the London books for 1879 meet their publishing deadlines and working on the manuscripts for the 1879 Players and GM's Companions.

Re: Aethercon
All you need is dice or a dice roller. I'll e-mail PDF character sheets and explain mechanics as we go. These are convention demos that I'm running, so you don't need the book.

Re: Mages & other spellcasters
Durability is the saving grace of spellcasters. Once they can start buying ranks in Durability, their survivability goes up massively. However, magic is supposed to be dangerous and perhaps a bit shaky and unreliable in this game world, given that it's only been back a year or two by the start of th...

Re: Mechanica Exotica and other Resources
Heh. We're going there a lot sooner. Wait until you see the Ottoman Empire sourcebook. There's a reason why they were able to hold off the Cossacks. But yeah, Rozalski's art is amazing and I wish I could afford to hire him.

To follow up on the section, Horses Are Not Vegetative Bicycles, in the 1879 GM's Guide (p211), see http://fmwriters.com/Visionback/Issue10 ... ghorse.htm, care and feeding of fictional horses.

Re: Rewarding players
Considering that the Dodger is going to immediately buy better equipment, and end up broke again, while the Brassman may be able to put a bit of it away for later, I'd not worry about it. There's also the problem of being low income and getting a bump - everybody who finds out about it comes calling...
