Re: Access to ranged weapon skills by discipline...
To do this we would probably need to create a discipline still based on Cavalryman but changing a few things: For horse archer as a primary tactic yes, but as it is missile weapons make a great secondary tactic. It is the nature of Earthdawn that the system itself kind of dictates a disciplines pri...

Re: Access to ranged weapon skills by discipline...
Anybody serious about Throwing Weapons will probably learn the "Returning" knack, available at rank 4. For one strain their thrown weapon returns to their hand. That way you only need one Thread Item and/or well forged throwing weapon. So you don't really need to buy a dozen hawk-hatchets. For that ...

Re: Saurids on Earth
I can't find the reference right now, but I recall Andrew saying that the British government, knowing the importance that the Saurids put on environmentalism, are determined to keep the Saurids from learning how polluted Earth is, and not allowing any Earth spirits to talk to any Saurid Shaman. So t...

Re: Making Characters
Yes, sure. It just was not addressed here in this post. As I said at the top of my last post I was helping somebody make a character and passed them this link saying the last entry had all they needed to know about the correct rules for characters initial skills. They were still confused, so now the...

Re: Optional Circle Advancement Rules
I would not say it is punitively punishing players. It is just saying that the standard rules assume that a player will keep all Discipline Talents "at circle rank" because the rules say they must, plus they will almost certainly keep several highly desired Talent Options near or at circle rank as w...

Re: Big Trouble in Little Soho [Spoilers]
We traveled to our ex colleague Miss Catherine Montague's home and had a nice visit. She was gracious enough to show us her Engine workshop. We showed her the cards and she was able to inform us that they were not an engine program per see, but rather were a data set. They were in a proprietary sche...

Re: Character generator for ED4?
If you happen to be (or know) a Roll20 - "Pro" level subscriber, you can create a game with the Earthdawn by FASA character sheet and API companion.
That holds your hand though character generation and advancement.

Re: Making Characters
I was helping somebody with this the other day, and want to just post a brief clarification on a point that they were still confused about even after reading the above: all of the example characters in the book except the "Medium" are incorrect, in that they have too many "Free skill slots" . In the...

Re: 1879: The Expendables
After visiting my taxidermist in London and dropping off the Jaguar, I headed to my parents country estate. Just about every day I have been riding over to Uncle Berties, and he has been training me in hunting techniques, learning to be more alert, and to have an Eagle Eye while firing a rifle, and ...

Re: Craftsman, Magical Tools
I have been wondering this myself. The spellcasting chapter starts with a note that sometimes a magician uses a tool to help set the pattern of a spell. So if a KaV states that a Clairvoyance spell requires a crystal ball or a special mirror or whatever, so this might be a catch-all skill for constr...
