Re: 4th edition disciplines with 3rd edition rules

i mean, i guess you *can* do whatever you want. it's your game. and i'm sure the gaming police are far too busy dealing with someone else's badwrongfun to kick in your door and keep you from polluting the sacred purity of the game rules which were obviously meant to never under any circumstances hav...

Re: Nethermancer at Circle 3?

I would consider shadowmants a nightflyer, but not a krillra (the latter are decidedly not nocturnal). (Of course, Nightflyer's Cloak has a lot of utility outside potential combat damage -- I'm partial to owls and bats.) yeah, i figured krillra were sketchy at best... based on their description, th...

Re: Nethermancer at Circle 3?

so, first off, i'm going to recommend talking to your GM. it is entirely possible (s)he hasn't realized that they're using a lot of fear-immune creatures, or just how much the nethermancer's early abilities use fear. there are low-circle opponents that fear works on, which fit into the campaign you'...

Re: T'Skrang ships

is cargo listed by weight or volume? perhaps the water ship has an advantage in one of those options that isn't listed. actually, i'm quite surprised to hear they're at all competitive in that regard, because i would have expected the water ships to be superior in both. i would also guess that the w...

Re: Disbelieving damaging illusions

Yeah, sure. But the paradox there is "Disbelieve what?" Everything all at once? Great, someone walks up and sticks a dagger in your belly. No need to be concerned, right? Yeah, well - it's real, your PD is 2, and no active defenses. And honestly, when a target does catch on to the short-term damagi...

Re: Disbelieving damaging illusions

I think you are misreading this slightly. In my opinion, it is _not_ a requirement that the GM stop and 'check with each target character' to see if they disbelieve before the mage gets to cast. That must be an active decision based on the totality of the situation, and it must be _declared_ before...

Re: Disbelieving damaging illusions

... well, don't announce in a loud voice to your enemies that you're casting a spell with the illusion keyword before you make the spellcasting test, i guess? i mean, they have to decide before the spellcasting test is done, so unless they have some way in advance of knowing exactly what spell you'r...

Re: Can you choose a talent option multiple times?

I don't generally consider "threads tied" to be terribly limiting, but that largely depends on how common thread items are in a given campaign. (I personally prefer to have fewer thread items, in order to focus more story potential on them and thereby make them more special.) well, let's consider h...

And every Legend Point you spend on Talents is a Legend Point you can't spend on new spells or threads.
the difference here is that talents cost only legend points, while matrix objects are being presented as an option that costs legend points *and* silver *and* threads tied.

Re: Can you choose a talent option multiple times?

It's also far easier to create a Spell Matrix item than any other "magical" item (common or thread) IMHO. Two Knacks will let you create a Matrix item of any matrix you know. The cost is high in Silver, but the only special ingredient needed is Orichalcum. sure, but unless i'm remembering wrong the...
