The hint with the scale is an interesting one!

The german distributor even gives you a complete photoshop file so one can modify the labels.

I think about adding an XY axis, so I can keep the labeled original and tell the players at which coordinates they can find places.

I would suggest to use a called shot for functional purposes.

Cutting the rope they use to hang your friend for example.

Not broken. Let's not forget that there is a 'middle ground' between 'alive' and 'dead' and that's the unconscious rating. Regarding Wood Skin; Your interpretation of the damage remaining and a character potentially dying when wood skin expires is a very tough one. I had missed the 'height-to-rank' part of the talent which is 'conveniently' set at the very end of the talent's description, while the beginning of it instead states 'with a success, he lands safely and takes no damage'.
