Re: Avoid Blow, Physical, Defense and Windlings

Indeed, Avoid Blow is like a 'second chance' at not being hit.

Perhaps he is a player used to previous edition where a failed Avoid Blow resulted in being knockdown?

Back then, using Avoid Blow was a hell of a gamble so that might be why he think its not worth it.

Re: Balancing Astral sight

Transparent objects remains transparent but opaque objects are not and are (unless magical) bland and textures-less. Which is why you could turn the pages of a book in Astral but not read the text. Although, now that I think about it, writing a book with confidential information, using an invisible ...

Re: Balancing Astral sight

Where you quoted me I missed to mark the quote from you. Sorry for the confusion. I disagree with you being able to see the Troll through glass. Glass as a dead substance appears the same colorless goo as concrete.. From the Players Guide, page 206: 'An adept may look through the astral imprint of ...

Re: Balancing Astral sight

If the Troll is behind glass, he would be visible in Astral Sight. The glass would appear like a concrete wall in Astral Space, as a lifeless color. Indeed, my example specifically says that IF you were looking through a window, you'd see the troll. There is a "Astral Stealth" knack for Stealthy St...

Re: Summoning and you . . . so many questions

I just had to go through learning spirit mechanics too (http://fasagames.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1616). So I'd say for question 1: Indeed, you only get one service, negotiation in only about how many/which powers it will use to do said service. I did not see anything related to reducing the su...

Question(s): Summoning

I finally have to figure out that one game mechanic I always managed to keep away from in Earthdawn; those damn spirits. I could use some help. First (of I'm sure many) questions: From what I think I understand, the simple fact that a spirit has been successfully summoned means that said spirit WILL...

Re: Balancing Forge Armor/Weapon

Ah, what about shields? Is there anything a weaponsmith can do to pimp his shield? you can decorate it to look very pretty. You cannot forge shields indeed. Perhaps in previous editions, where shields provided actual ARMOR, it might have made sense to forge a shield (i.e. make it more solid to incr...

Re: Balancing Astral sight

nice summary. Just to say that I think gleaming more info from patterns requires subsequent tests to "foucus" on the pattern. I don't think its meant to be possible to learn everything in one good enough roll. Indeed, this is why I specified 'if you took time to study their pattern'. I don't think ...

Re: Teamwork Tests, Dagger Talent

If you are interested with dagger combat, I'd suggest you take a look at the 'Close-In' talent in the Kratas book (3rd edition). My Swordmaster in my Second Edition(!) game took the 'Slasher' specialization path (only exist in the Kratas book) and thus replaced the Maneuver talent by Close-in. It's ...

Re: Balancing Astral sight

Astral Sight (my understanding of it) The key elements to understand are: • Astral Space is an exact reflection of our (i.e. physical) world. • Everything in physical space (living or not) possesses an astral counterpart called an Astral Imprint BUT the opposite is not always true: some living bein...
