[ED3] Learning Talents from Higher levels
In 1st and 2nd edition, players had to option to learn talents from higher circles earlier than normal. I noticed that has been removed in 3rd edition. Anyone know why? I didn't allow it very often, but there were a handful of talents that were sort of integral to certain disciplines that I would ma...

Re: Optional Strain Rule
To be clear, I wasn't suggesting to remove strain damage or that it wasn't valid damage to take. This rule is only to change the kind of damage it is. For all practical purposes, it would change nothing about combat, except when calculating when a players death rating reached. Pretty much everything...

Optional Strain Rule
I've recently picked back up on Earthdawn, because my daughter is finally old enough and interested in playing the RPG's I enjoyed in my youth. I'm not ready to invest in 4th edition yet, mostly because I have all the books for 1st and 3rd, and most of the books for 2nd, even though I never actually...

Re: need a name
Names with things related to shard are also good choices. Hope of the Broken Shard and things like that. It also invokes previous Earthdawn storylines, which I find is sometimes good to mislead players so they are chasing the wrong kinds of conclusions using out of game knowledge. Something about a ...

Re: need a name
Also some details about the Crystal Entity itself might be helpful as well. Are you thinking standard crystal entity, or are you going with something more exotic. I ran an Kaer exploration mission once where the all the light quartz of the Kaer had been taken over by crystal entities. Took the playe...

Re: 4th ed spells now take LP to learn?
I've never played 4th edition, but I've heard this complaint in the past in the 1st-3rd edition games. I generally agreed that it's sort of a problem, my solution to the problem was to give non-mages more talent knacks that they could develop and use. Talent knacks are relatively cheap to learn and ...

Re: Training skills?
We had several debates about this topic over the years. The general solution that we came too was that people with talents could train people in them as skills. Mostly based off the fact that skills can be aligned into talents with the optional rules in the books. The reality is that the source of t...

Re: Improving Attribute SP cost?
The way we always played it was that SP cost was paid to the trainer, just like with talents and skills, despite the fact it was never directly spelled out as a requirement, but heavily implied by the verbiage. At the gamemaster’s discretion, this fee may double or triple if the character wants priv...

Re: How much does a wagon cost?
The price to ride in one would probably be the Caravan rate, since those are primarily wagon transports.

Re: High circle adepts in the books . . . ?
Another choice that I started using for high level characters after the introduction in 1st Edition of the notion of "spontaneous initiation" into Disciplines, was the "spontaneous leveling" in your own discipline. So that's an option to consider as well. I had players chasing all over the country s...
