Re: Languages

I think you probably shouldn't overthink it. Language is complex, and for the sake of gameplay is often simplified -- in Earthdawn and in other games. I suspect the "racial" languages (and the rules around learning languages) as presented in ED1 were put together without really considering the lareg...

Re: Knacks as skills

For all intents and purposes, learning a knack as a skill works just like learning a normal skill and is otherwise treated as a skill. A "Novice-tier" knack-as-skill can be obtained with your starting allotment of skill points. It would cost 200 Legend to buy Rank 1, 300 to advance to Rank 2 (along ...

Re: Timing of ongoing effects

I have some questions as to the timing of ongoing effects: For a talent such as Frighten or other talents or spells that allow the target to attempt to escape the effects: e.g. "Each round, the target may make a Willpower test against the adept’s FrightenStep. If successful, he throws off the effec...

Re: Introduction to 4th ed Earthdawn--time pressing

My recommendations: Grab the ED4 Quick-Start (the PDF is free from our site or DriveThruRPG). In addition to a basic overview of the mechanics, it has some pre-generated characters and a fairly simple adventure ("Masks of Fear") that loosely connects with the Legends of Barsaive adventure series. Al...

Re: Help in balancing ritual magic and named spells

For ritual spells (assuming it's not permanent), I wouldn't bother with the Legend Point cost. Multiple spell threads, yes. Instead of the normal single-action thread weaving, have each thread take a longer period of time (10 minutes, 30 minutes, etc.) to weave. Blood magic would be optional dependi...

Re: 4th ed spells now take LP to learn?

This was changed with the release of fourth edition. It might seem harsh, but think of it this way: each spell provides a new tool or ability in the magician's arsenal, increasing their flexibility. Providing those tools for free -- when just about everything else costs Legend Points -- can be unbal...

Re: Next Book Announced! Kickstarter Launch June 10!

I tried to find a way to fund after the Kickstarter ended but I couldn't find an option (or I was too late even for that). Unfortunately the way Kickstarter works is that once the funding window closes, you can't get in. You'll still be able to get the book, once we release it, of course, which we'...

Not officially yet, no.

As soon as we have one, we'll be shouting it from the rooftops (figuratively speaking).

Re: Blood Elf Children

The German versions of the novels do indeed have numbers. Number 7 would be "Little Treasures". https://www.amazon.de/Earthdawn-Kleine-Sch%C3%A4tze-Earthdawn-Zyklus-Band-ebook/dp/B015EMVKRU Ah, well. Since it hasn't been released in English, and I haven't had a chance to read it, I can't comment. I...
