I can confirm the speed in ED2 from earlier experience with the same frequency.

So everyone can tune their desired speed of advancement.

I experimented with higher damage steps for a crossbow but only firing every other round. This would make a troll crossbow(wo)man more interesting. In my game, players can loose items and die as a cause of their actions. I like sandboxing and yes, also the challenges that surely kill you knock on your door once in a while and the adventure can be the polite decline of it.

I do give them however 4 times the recommended LP.

Oh, why not allowing the hero to cast multiple instances... ... there is just one problem... multiple instances of the same spell on the same target create resonance in astral space. Resonance attracts attention... So for each additional instance he needs 1 success more and failure triggers the same...

I dont see issues.
