Rumor: Slavery is terrible enough, but some bastard is offering the slavers around Sosanopa extra for pregnant captives. Word is someone is willing to pay top coin to find out the identity of the buyers, and a bonus to learn whatever sick motive lies behind this twisted practice. A merchant from Sosanopa appears to be offering the reward, but might be a cutout for a merchant house trying to protect its interests without drawing the ire of the slavers.
Location: Sosanopa
Circle: ECL 3M
Reward: 50% price reduction on circle advancement (Provided through House Mikul) , access to learn a new talent for Versatility.
Benefit: Improve the security of the people of Sosanopa and help protect the viability of the local trade routes.
Notable NPCs: Shemp Hearth, a nervous but ambitious Sosanopa based merchant.

Rumor: While news of Jarock's death brought joy to Calina's heart, her mind was left unsettled about the manner in which he perished. Ever the curious (because that never caused anyone's death, right?), Calina has elected to investigate what caused Jarock and his friends to pursue such a dangerous quarry. To assist in this endeavor, she believes that beginning her investigation with the Nethermancers might allow her to contact one of those involved in Blood to Bath in and give her a decent starting point for this investigation. With a plan in place, steps will have to be developed to discover what led the party to their death. Luckily, the creature what slain the party has already been killed.
Location: (Dealer's Choice)
Circle: 8H
Reward: Unlock Nethermancer
Benefit: Unknown to the characters, the party will recover the Blooded Haruspex and ensure that it does not lead another party to death. It could be cursed, horror tainted, or any number of things that may have caused it to choose such a dangerous mission for its wearer.

Rumor: near the via Triolvi between Throal and Sosanopa, there is a farm that is growing amazing sweet melons. But closer towards Sosanopa, and just off the road, there is a Blood Bee hive hidden in the trees. House Mikul would like some adventurers to clear out the nest, because it becomes more dangerous for trade.
Location: between Throal and Sosanopa (Forest maps)

This crude warbow is made from bone and leather straps from some unfortunate beast. The bow takes some considerable effort to draw but that transfers into a powerful shot with immense stopping power.
When the bow is held it seems to always be aiming itself at anyone or anything within eyesight focusing on the heart. This effect is increased if an arrow is notched.
If the owner of the bow is sneaking with the bow out it starts to whisper to the owner to take the shot and fell the target of the hunt no matter what the owner's thoughts are on the matter.
The bow is bloodthirsty, it wants to watch an arrow plunge into a heart and watch the target of its hunt bleed out.

Thread Rank Five
Deed: Complete a great hunt (it doesn't say it has to be an animal, so I think this should be fine... if not, I'd still like to do the adventure, but it wouldn't count as a deed completion)

Player: Sharkforce (Garak)

Rumor: Bialis is a crazy murderous elf that escaped the wrath of the party in Monster Most Foul. As of the events of Not Expecting That the family of the leader of the murder-elves is looking for him so they can find out who to exact revenge on. Wouldn't it just be a *terrible* shame if someone else were to cash in on one of the many "Wanted Dead or Alive" bounties on him, and just happened to forget about the "or alive" option before he could spill his guts to the ones that want to target Pavar's Hill (including potentially Garak's unborn child)

Location: Hard to say. On the one hand, Bialis' previous modus operandi involved using the Serpent River to travel around and ruin peoples' lives. On the other hand his ship was blown to bits and there is a family of elves that probably wants to torture him for information, and they seem to have a presence on the Serpent River too, so maybe he decided to head elsewhere.
Point being, he could be wherever the GM is interested in putting him.

Circle: I believe it has to be ECR 4 at least since it is a deed... check with me if it's been a while since I posted this, in which case Garak may be ECR 5 by then.

Reward: If you want this to create an opportunity for personal development - Questor training, new circle, etc.

Benefit: Bialis is a horrible person, so his death is almost certainly a net positive. He may have useful information about other horrible people, possibly contained in his journal (if any), which Garak would love to recover as well (partly to make sure it can't fall into the hands of the murder-elves, partly so that he can find out more about them and any exploitable weaknesses they may have).

Notable NPCs: I don't have any in mind.

The Gannagroth Liferock is up in the Throal Mountains a bit back from the Serpent River and the Caucavic Valley (hex 44.07). In a small sheltered side-canyon near the liferock, Strats has founded an odd little wildlife sanctuary. The little canyon is filled with a wide variety of fruit trees of all sorts, grown from seeds or seedlings gathered during his wanderings and selected to create a year-round source of food for his little wild friends.

You see, Strats has made the place into a special home for a large pack of earth q'wirl. The little guys live a prairie dog style existence and enjoy their own small out-of-the-way slice of heaven here, filled with their favorite fruits. The place is also set up for the local earth elementals to enjoy, a place where they can meet with the ephemeral name givers in peace. Local obsidimen treat the place as a wonderful spot to spend an afternoon, and there is a large sign by the entrance to the canyon welcoming those of good will. It reads in part "Welcome. Enter the sanctuary in peace, experience another perspective of the natural world, and leave enriched for the time you spend here".

Image

Strats was both broken hearted and LIVID when he got a note from one of his obsidimen brothers.

Menhir said that when he went to the canyon to meditate, he found the q'wirl pack incoherent with fear. About half of them had been killed and their elemental beaks chopped off. The poachers had left the bodies to rot. The local earth elementals who witnessed the attack made a clay sculpture of the intruders. Menhir is concerned that the poachers may come back to go after the survivors, and so has been living in the canyon while he sent to Strats for help.

Player: Drew
Character: Strats

As Strats has deepened his understanding of the duties of a Brother of Stone, he feels moved to bring greetings from his liferock, Gannagroth, to the other liferocks currently known in the West Marches:
  • The Ayodhya Liferock is on the southwest shore of Lake Ban (hex 49.19, see Obsidiman Trouble and numerous other references)
  • The Thrymmatazo liferock (connected to the formal horkla Strats wears, Mosaic) is up in the mountains near the juncture of the Tylon and Serpent Rivers (hex 26.23)
  • The Gabbro liferock is reported to be deep in the caverns under and a bit northwest of Throal. The liferock has recently awakened and sent out new obsidimen brothers (hex 43.09, see WM character background for Bronk the obsidiman)
Other liferock rumors:
  • Strats has heard rumors that the liferock beneath the Cliff City of Syrtis, Zirabul, survived the Scourge (hex 52.11)
  • There are whispers that the Tepuis Garan liferock may have survived (hex 31.16)
  • He has also heard rumors of the Nehem liferock far to the southeast near the Coil River and the Aras Sea (hex 58.24)
The Gannagroth Liferock is up in the Throal Mountains a bit back from the Serpent River and the Caucavic Valley (hex 44.07). Strats is already carrying messages and aid from Gannagroth to Ah-Shi-Sle-Pah (hex 52.03) to help the wounded liferock recover after the attack by the Crystal Horror that tried to devour it during the Scourge (see Rebirth of a Brotherhood of Stone).

If anyone knows of any other liferocks, please send me a message and will add them to the list.

NPCs: The obsidiman Brother of Stone Salar Bazhadi can be a wonderful plot device to kick off a trip to a specific liferock a GM would like to focus on for a session.

As the title suggests, the theme is exploration and reconnection for the obsidimen of Barsaive. Travel challenges and the wonders (and dangers) the party may discover along the way are open to the GMs creativity.

Rumor: The easiest way to maximize damage on an enemy is through the use of unexpected or unforeseen attacks. The best way to maximize this optimization is to know the effects firsthand. The best way to be taken through the unexpected rigmarole is by those who specialize in the unexpected. Thieves. Surely they would have someone willing to teach the ways of Surprise Strike. Most likely, these masters of stealth would want something done about one of those masters of observation. Seems we need to take down a Scout, or at least redirect his attention away from a heist or scheme, but how will that alter the balance of power in Barsaive?
Location: (Dealer's Choice)
Circle: 3M
Reward: Surprise Strike as a Versatility Talent
Benefit: Probably something unexpected. It may not even be a benefit. With the appropriate choices, bad things might happen.

First, you do remember that Throal only opened it's gates 9 years ago, and that most places opened them much later?
I fail to see how a village could be founded, develop an industry big enough to support a trade route, a trade route being established and become well used, and then a disagreement, and the trade route being abandoned and overgrown all in less than 9 years. I mean it could, but nothing in that could ever be described as happening "long ago".

Suggest get rid of all mention of the long ago feud as all participants would be long dead. Simply say that there was a trade route prior to the scourge.

Or alternativly, make it a very recent feud. But remember that there were absolutely no relations between the two populations between 9 and 300 years ago.

Also, I would think that shipping upriver and walking from Sossanopa would be much quicker, easier, and cheaper than traveling though the mountains. The one hex = one days walking is along flat roads. Mountain trails usually take much more than one hex per day. I am not saying that a trade route could not make sense. I am just saying that it probably would not save VERY much time over just going around the mountains. I can see that people living on the north side of the mountains might want a trade/travel route that did not involve going upriver, but it would probably be only personal travel or very light goods. And like I said, it makes most sense to make it a pre-scourge route that modern people want reopened.

For the sake of this rumor. Make it clear that this rumor has to do with the livestock deaths. Possibly, maybe just mention the old trade route though the mountains as a possible additional rumor that some (higher circle) group might want to tackle later. But I don't see the old trade route having anything to do with THIS adventure, and thus probably ought to be left out of this rumor entirely. Post a new rumor just for that.

The NPCs are not really part of the rumor ether (except maybe Turfus, who brought word to Throal). If you want to develop NPCs this way, I suggest you ask to become a GM, and then you can further develop Parver Hill add all the NPCs that you want.
